It’s possible that Manning directly or indirectly let Elway know that he’d be leaning toward retirement if Fox returned in 2015. Remember, Fox was in Denver before Manning arrived, so Manning was kind of stuck with him.

With Fox out, Manning and Elway could potentially handpick a coach.

On Monday, Elway met with Manning before he met with Fox. What do you think they talked about?

Well, somebody around here doesn't know to read. I didn't say I would have kept Tebow, or that I think he was a good quarterback (which he wasn't), I said that between him and Manning, I would have totally chosen Tebow. Manning is is seriously overrated quarterback, and by the time Broncos hired him, he was nothing but damaged goods.

Anybody cheering for Manning is out of his mind. Everybody talks about all his records and how great he is. Well, here is a record for all of you: 13 playoff games lost, and what does he has to show? One Superbowl. Tom Brady lost only 8 and has three SB rings.
And don't get me wrong, I hate Brady and the Pats as much as any other Broncos fan, but the truth is that we've been stuck with a QB that can't win a game when it really matters.
And let's stop blaming Fox, Manning was already too old, too hurt and too damn afraid back when Elway hired him, three seasons ago. We got a has-been that was never half as good as everybody pretends he is.
I said it three seasons ago and time proved me right, Manning is a failure and we have been suffering his whims for way too long. God, I would have kept Tebow before hiring Manning.

I have, and I find it interesting and am glad he posted it, but it's one guys opinion on the internet. He's never met Peyton, he's never talked with Peyton, and he's never seen Peyton throw in person.

Peyton will have plenty of access to good doctors, and he will make the decision that's right. Peyton left no turn uncovered when returning from his neck surgery, and this will be no different. There were plenty of "experts" on the internet then too who talked about how he could never throw again etc. etc.

I wouldn't count out the greatest QB of all time just yet.

Even if Peyton decided not to retire we have to bring in somebody to really compete with Osweiler, if we don't and Peyton looks terrible do we want to pay him 19 mil to ride the pine?

Have you read the comments on Peyton's injury by the guest commentator. I think they're quite informative and accurate. Peyton is unlikely to get back to where he was last season or the start of this season.

Precisely there are few is any HC candidates out there that know as much as Manning. It is not just the 18 years on the field playing but also the decades before being on the field and watching film with his dad.

His relationships with his coaches and the amount of film he watches makes him imminently qualified to talk replacements with.

Anyone that thinks John will not use that resource is silly.

So. BRinging in a top few players at OC, and ORT and assuming we do not resign OF an OLG. An OL that can actually pass protect as well as run block that would not add years to Mannings career.
Plus bring in a top HC and hire an aggressive DC

You do not think all of th above is something we need to do, most of it will be taken care of over the off season

Myself I'll take manning at 90% of his old self IF we have a legit OL. His mind games will beat most teams handily.

I really don't get all the hand wringing, to be honest. Bring Peyton back next year and if he can't cut it, then give Osweiler a chance. Squandering resources on previously failed quarterbacks or reaching for a rookie QB seems wasteful and counter-productive when we've got viable options already under contract.

The quarterback class is brutal this year. Nobody in this class after the top two should be drafted higher than the fourth round, but somebody will undoubtedly fall in love with Hundley's measurables and reach badly for him.

That's right, but the reported injury didn't occur in the St. Louis game, it occurred a month later in the San Diego game.

Did you see something in the last 2 months of the season that led you to believe that Manning can still consistently deliver accurate passes? I did not.

Also, the Buffalo game was in Denver.

Buffalo and St Louis had excellent pass rushes playing at home against our patchwork o line.

29-7 TD-INT in nine games before St Louis.

11-8 TD-INT in the eight games after.

Manning is a head QB. He does not rely on his legs to get him out of trouble he uses his mind. As far as I can see he can play until his arm goes and that maybe into his mid 40's

The difference escaped Jay Cutler 6 years ago, which ultimately lead to the biggest mess since Tommy Maddox.

I'm pretty sure PM will be able give his input, wait until the Broncos make a hire, then make a decision about his future based upon that hire. I'm also sure that Elway has proven he's way too smart to put the team into a hole for any given player.

I don't think this draft is strong at the top at QB, as I don't care for Jameis Winston or Mariota. But there usually is a chance to find a QB at the end of round 1. Last season alone, Teddy Bridgewater went at 32, Derek Carr at 36 and Jimmy Garoppolo went 62nd to the Patriots. Both Bridgewater and Carr played well as rookies, and Garoppolo currently looks to be Brady's heir apparent. Granted these guys might not pan out, but the same can be said for QBs taken in the top 5.

As for FAs, you're right. Not much there in terms of upside, but I'd take a Jake Locker/Brian Hoyer/Mark Sanchez to push Osweiler and serve as a fall-back option if he fails miserably. The draft is obviously the better route, though.

Every year guys we haven't heard of (Like Garoppolo last offseason) impress in offseason workouts and/or at the combine and shoot up draft boards. If we could draft this year's Derek Carr, I'd be absolutely thrilled.

I agree, but who are we gonna bring in to compete with Oz? I I don't follow the draft, but I've heard this is another incredibly shallow draft at QB, and I doubt there will be talent at the end of the first round. And like usual, there's few if any quality QB's available by trade or free agency.

If we had the #1 pick or Aaron rodgers was gonna be a free agent it'd be a different story. Even if the odds are slim with Manning, there better than with anyone else we could likely get.

Yes, I prefer we move on. I don't think that means it's necessarily with Osweiler, though. No indictment on him, but it is stupid to have only one option at QB, especially when that one option has never taken a meaningful snap. They need to draft another QB early, and pick the best player between Osweiler and the new guy. At the very least, Osweiler needs some competition brought in via free agency.

I was all about dumping Tebow and bringing in Manning, and I've gone to the mat shouting that he's the greatest of all time. But I don't think he's that anymore. Between his inability to pass effectively and the poor play of the offensive line, this team stood no chance. I don't have any reason yet to think next year would be different with Manning, but if Elway says so then so be it.

You've got the greatest QB of all time. You do whatever you can to get him back. If that means giving him input on coaching decisions you do it.

There were plenty of people before who said the Broncos shouldn't trade Tebow and take a chance on an old QB coming off an injury, but I think we're all glad they did. That doesn't mean it'll work out the same this time (and this is all still speculative), but I think it's worth the risk.

Do you really prefer we go with Osweiler so we can possibly get a slightly better coach? And who knows how much input PFM is giving. And maybe Elway and PFM are on the same page anyways so it doesn't matter.

Assuming he can throw the ball accurately downfield, which hasn't been the case for about 2 months.

Indy beat us with a single high safety through most of the game on Sunday, knowing we had to pass. They crowded the line and took away the short throws, knowing Manning couldn't beat them deep. You might say "injury," but Buffalo and St. Louis did the same thing before the injury. Cincinnati and Indy did it after.

Do you still think Elway fires Fox? In my mind, Fox would be best if PFM isn't coming back, but maybe I'm biased since I've always been a Fox defender. What do others think? What do people think Elway's thought process was IF PFM said he wasn't coming back (hopefully purely hypothetical)?
