Broncos re-sign Ryan Harris to help offensive line

Tackle Ryan Harris, a starter from 2008-2010, re-signed on Monday, according to a team source, filling the roster spot left by guard Chris Kuper, who was placed on injured reserve. Kuper broke his lower left leg and suffered a dislocated ankle in Sunday’s 7-3 loss to Kansas City. Harris, a 2007 third-round draft pick, was an unrestricted free agent before this season and nearly re-signed with the Broncos then. He chose instead to sign with Philadelphia, but suffered a back injury during training camp.

And, he's signed through 2012. No matter what, it looks like we'll have an improved line next season, assuming Kuper's career isn't over, because Harris is definitely better than Chris Clark.
Posted by tunesmith on 2012-01-03 05:01:13 I'm definitely glad to see this. I think Harris has been well above average throughout his career, when he's been healthy. Granted, he hasn't been consistently healthy, but I still think he's a quality RT. I wouldn't be opposed to letting him start at RT and sliding Franklin over to RG. Or letting him start at RG. Or anything scenario that doesn't involve Hochstein starting anywhere. No matter how you slice it, Ryan Harris on the roster = more depth on the O Line; definitely a solid roster move.
Posted by Hercules_Rockefeller on 2012-01-03 00:12:24 That would be a tough assignment to start a playoff game against the Steelers D after being out all season. The article did say he is signed through 2012 which will be good for depth and competition if he can stay healthy.

Posted by underdog on 2012-01-02 19:46:10 Since Franklin basically broke Kuper's leg, he should be amenable to moving over if necessary. ;) But seriously, I think it probably is a depth move, this late in the game and yeah, an eye toward next year. Hochstein will probably be given first opp to start.
Posted by underdog on 2012-01-02 19:38:22 I'd like to hear what Doc has to say about this move. For Sunday, I would imagine this is purely for depth. If they've also signed him for next year, I am personally in favor of putting Harris at RT and moving Franklin to LG (or RG if Kuper isn't ready to start the season). I was hoping they'd add a veteran RT in free agency for next year; I guess it's even better to have him in the fold now.

Actually this is really interesting. Many interpretations likely (backup or moves Franklin to RG if he starts at RT). Very interesting. I hope your back is well old friend.
