What it does care about is protecting its image, no matter the cost. The league is fine with honoring, remembering and supporting causes, so long as it’s done the NFL’s way. Wear league-approved pink shoes and towels to support breast cancer awareness month, don’t pull out a ribbon from your sock to honor your aunt with the disease after scoring a touchdown

Ummm, isn&#8217t that the crazy dance all the kids are doing these days known as Mile High Tebowing?

I know the MH salute originated as a sign of respect for the military, and I love Decker, and there is no way on earth that should have drawn a foul, but ... that&#8217s more associated with the Broncos these days than the military, isn&#8217t it? But if Decker&#8217s really serious about tying it back to its origins, good for him and shame on the league.

Meanwhile, hopefully Decker will know he should be able to do the Mile High Salute with no fear of repercussions. Just apparently no kneel downs.

@tombstone - Pretty brilliant, my friend. Some degree of consistency would be greatly appreciated - this was as idiotic as the NFL gets, which is saying quite a bit.

This all goes back to Goodells homosexuality. The league will continue to regress with his over-regulation and there wont be an end until he is cured or a new commissioner is enstated. I urge anyone in the Westchester NY vicinity to take a fat steamy one in front of his house as a form of medication for this useless puppet.

I still think this is totally lame mind you but it was my understanding that Decker was penalized for going to the ground (kneeling) in celebration, not for the salute. Again, I still think this is utterly stupid, but it&#8217s not the slap in the face I thought it was when thinking he was hit for saluting the troops.

At the start of every training camp, the NFL should publish and distribute a handbook of Pre-Authorized Touchdown Celebrations (PATTIES). And head coaches should be allowed to throw challenge confetti (limited to 3 &#8220celebration challenges&#8221 per half), thereby subjecting a questionable touchdown celebration call or non-call to further review from the booth by a Touchdown Celebration Consultant (ToCCos). Should the challenge result in a overturned call by the ToCCo, the penalized player should be required to kick the ensuing kickoff himself. Should the call on the field stand, the coach&#8217s team takes a delay of celebration penalty, the official hand gesture for which looks very much like the last 2 seconds of Marcus Thomas&#8217 False Start Shuffle. By all means anything to slow the game down, make room for another commercial break and give the color analysts something they can really sink their teeth into. Lame, NFL, just Lame.

An interesting question was posed in the comments to the linked article; Why is going to a knee illegal anyway? Is this somehow offensive to someone, or did the NFL simply fear that it would get out of hand? (not that I have any clue what could possibly get out of hand about someone kneeling after a touchdown).

And it&#8217s interesting that this wasn&#8217t enforced last week against the Raiders, but was this week. I suspect a memo went out asking the refs to keep an eye out for it, lest the whole &#8220Tebowing&#8221 thing catch on as a touchdown celebration.

This is stupid, players go to one knee all the time after scoring a TD, they say a little player, point up to God and then trot back to their sideline. What&#8217s the difference?
