Colts plan to announce Peyton Manning’s departure Wednesday

The Colts will officially do what has been widely expected for months and formally announce that they’re releasing Manning on Wednesday, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports. Manning and Colts owner Jim Irsay are expected to attend a joint announcement.

Tebow haters, start your Manning-to-Broncos rumors at midnight tonight.

Or, if you hate Tebow that much, begin...now.

Can you all imagine how freakin' hard it'd be to prepair for Denver with Manning being the primary, but with a 15 to 20 snap Tebow subpackage. It'd be revolutionary...if egos and all that weren't involved.

That said, I think I have a better chance at a Pulitzer than Manning landing in Denver.

I'd love to sign Manning if healthy, trade Tebow to Jacksonville, and to draft a quarterback next season to take over Manning down the line.

The game theory is actually getting pretty interesting now. While that locks in Luck to #1, now you've got RG3 (and the trade to #2), Flynn, and Manning all playing against each other.

Any ideas on what the profile would be for the type of team that would go after each? My guess:

Manning: Pursued by teams that are "built to win now" and think they are a quarterback away from reaching the Super Bowl. Candidates? Maybe Minnesota. Washington (in Shanahan's eyes). Other possibilities: Arizona and the Jets. All of these teams are fairly old in player age.

Flynn: Teams that are starting to display real talent, but are also a quarterback away, and who have Green Bay connections. The obvious candidate is Miami. I think the Chiefs are also a possibility, as well as San Francisco.

RG3: Teams that are young, in need of a QB that can hide their flaws, and are willing to grow for the future. I would also put Washington here if they want to flip to a youth movement (I don't see Shanny doing this though.) I think Seattle and Cleveland are the best options. Jacksonville is also a possibility, and I guess you could put Denver in there as a dark horse.

That's just off the top of my head, not paying attention to draft position or cap situation.

My thought? Manning is going to the Jets to be close to Eli. Flynn is going to Miami. Washington and Cleveland are going to get into a bidding war with RG3, locking out any talk of Jacksonville or Denver.

So with Philbin in Miami, maybe that's where Flynn winds up, any guess on the favorite to land Manning? What about this, since Cleveland isn't willing to part with picks for RG III, could a team like the Redskins land both Manning and RG III? That would be a killer haul, short term and possible long term. I heard a few weeks back that even the Chiefs made sense. Would be eerily familiar to the situation when Joe Montana finished his career there. Even then, anyone remember that duel between him and Elway on Monday night? WHAT A GAME!

I like Tebow and would love to see Peyton Manning in orange and blue. Will never forget how he torched us several times in the playoffs. Don't think it will happen, but what better guy for Tim to learn from than Peyton Manning, even if he is only at 80% or whatever?
