Fool Me Once. Shame On You.
Fool Me Twice. Shame On Me.
Fool me Thrice. Shame on the defensive coordinator.
Don “Wink” Martindale, here’s a stat you’ve not heard mentioned this week. The Jacksonville Jaguars ran the ball up the middle 250 times in 2009. That put them at #1 in the league in rushing attempts up the middle (the Broncos were 10th, with 135 attempts). On those 250 attempts, they averaged a very respectable 4.27 yards per attempt.
In contrast, They ran over either the right or left guard only 56 times.
If you haven’t noticed, Dirk Koetter, offensive coordinator for the Jags, likes to pound it right into the intestines of the defense.
The Broncos brought in nose guard Jamal Williams in for a reason. Stop the run.
Today he’s going to get the chance.
Everyone will be talking about Tim Tebow. But watch Williams early in the game and see how he’s doing plugging up the center and the combo center-guard double teams. It will be key to a Broncos victory.
If Williams plays well, the Broncos stand a good chance of winning. If not, D.J. Williams and Mario Haggan could look a little foolish.
