Hey, Everyone! Here’s where you can discuss the day’s games. Enjoy!

Much obliged. No rush on my account - I’m in asbestos training all week and living out of a hotel outside of Sacramento. Whatever you get; sometimes the comment discussion is as enlightening as the original post.
I really thought I saw playcalling ebb and flow today; the chess game; the cat and mouse; the adjustments on the fly. That was fascinating. It really is like two old generals playing on a board in front of them, and the lines on the map moved from side to side. There is micro football and macro football and I saw some of both today. But, I’m ready to say that I’ve seen the elephant (I live in thevgold country Mother Lode).
To YS, re: 68
Great question, Sam. I’m going to talk with TJ on this - different stat sites can have slightly different numbers in terms of where runs go, etc - football doesn’t lend itself to stats in the same way that baseball does, for example. Some calls are very much judgement calls, and the margins are small. My feeling is that to et the best answer to your questions - which are great - we should look at all possible sources, film and all. I should have it done by Thursday, and might by Weds.
By the way, there will be a Bronc-ography coming at the beginning of the week. i changed the name from Tales - new beginnings and all that
Great, Doc. I guess what I wonder about in that scenario is the pulling RG around to the left. Am I correct in thinking that the LT/LG are supposed to create a gap that both the RG and FB also run though looking to block LBs (or doubleteam as needed). Daniels gets his 320# rumbling on a run right, but I don’t know how well Hoch or Kuper pull. However, ZB left would be a good call.
When you do that analysis would you be kind enough to also look at the PB/ZB ratios and in the light of left or right runs?BTW, I’m glad I found you guys. I thought you’d left.
Reply to #62, Yosemite Sam -
I’m going to look at that carefully when I’m doing film this week, YS. I’m suspected that you’re right - Beadles hasn’t played RT before this TC - and Clady/Daniels is about 668 lb, give or take a cheeseburger. Hochstein is a backup who played better today than last week, Beadles a rookie out of position. I’m betting that they like the left REAL well today - but your point is extremely well taken. Thanks, and I’ll keep an eye out. TJ usually has a breakout of that as well, so we’ll be covered on both sides.
@ JennaIt does smell awesome. Didn’t marinate it but did pour a can of coors in the crock pot with onions. Can’t wait to eat it.
ooooh elk roast @ #63 !
very nice! that can be really good with a beer marinade overnight and then slow cooked all day !
great choice, bet it smells so good !
Pleased but not satisfied- a good step in the right direction. We need sustained domination. Need better run defense and special teams coverage. Getting Harris back will only further improve the O. No complacency. Did very well on the penalties front.
Ahh, elk roast in the crock pot, Broncos have the game well in hand, what a way to wind down the day.
To my untrained eye, it seems like we’ve had more success running left behind Daniels/Clady. Anyone else see that?
Don’t ease off too soon, guys. You’re proving that no one can take you lightly this year.
On the other hand, any bets that Orton lets up about 1/2 hour after the game?
What, exactly is a prevent defense supposed to prevent? Forgive me for not seeing the wisdom in guaranteeing 10 yard plays every play instead of continuing to play the defensive strategy that has been working all game?
oooooh don’t be hurt Jarvis Moss !
you’ve had a good game !
I love that feeling when you can finally relax a little.
Brandon who?
#51 back to Jenna
You’re right. And, like the goal line Moreno TD, often he’s setting up something. There was a section in ‘The Education of a GM’ that mentioned that, so did Simms’ Sunday Morning QB. You run it and run it and then when you’re looking like it’s going to be the same, they go back to the other side or up the middle. Fun stuff - especially when Moreno stretches out and nails that sucker!
Anyone want to bet that some folks in Indy are looking very seriously at this young man, D-Thom?
It’s nice to see what Orton can do when he has time
Orton is win.
Demaryius Thomas: This kid’s good.
This is a clinic. Well done coaches, players.
Very impressed.
I’m thinking with a fully intact OL, this offense could be both a ball control offense and a quick strike threat. And that makes both of them easier.
re: #47 @ Doc
our head coach is stubborn sometimes !
HERE WE ARE: Rockin you like a HURRICANE!
Who could DT replace in the starting lineup? Gaff or Lloyd? Maybe neither. He’s the best WR not starting in the league from appearances.
The o-line is providing adequate protection for Orton today.
That’s the third time I’ve seen them run that play to the left and make the throw, despite the defense being set for it.
Moreno playing like he wants it. I hope he continues to play with fire all season
He EARNED that TD!
I thought that they had Moreno at least twice - and he did the college hurdle to boot! Attaway, KM
The decency of the coverage teams last year was reason enough to make me feel good about the new administration. I had just assumed that painful special teams were part of being a Broncos fan. I don’t even understand what gives. I guess I’ll endorse the too-many-shifts-in-personnel theory, since it looks like there’s lots of bad communication. But that would have been the case last year, and they looked good last year.
What is up with the ST coverage???
Starting to get a little banged up out there. Need to stay sharp on offense and attack. I want Orton to keep looking for downfield plays. DT on post anyone?
OB - thanks
Looked like Ayers was just hammered right on the pelvic bone - that will leave a heck of a bruise. Never thought that I’d say “Thank goodness Jarvis Moss is active”, but with a sack and a couple of tackles, it’s great to see him coming around.
that Rod Smith school is a tough one to get through. No offense meant, but Rod expelled BMarsh for poor conduct - he really did say that he wouldn’t work with him any longer for that. Now we’ve got as good a receiver - better, since he catches over his shoulder - with Lloyd, Gaff, Royal, Decker…O+B was right - I don’t recall a deeper receiving corps for Denver. We need a little RB work (I hope that Mulroney comes around), but we’re covered for receivers for a long time to come (and two INTs today). Go Broncos!
Also Doc, inactives does not incl Decker. Woody is tho.
Doc, 1st TD was a nice low grab by Royal at the 2 yrd line and he rolled into the endzone.
Is Decker active today?
Doc, it was I who said he was just a big guy with speed. But this was before I knew he was attending the Rod Smith course in becoming a bad-ass WR.
LOL @Doc Bear
D Thomas has potential to be great for sure
This is the deepest WR corps we’ve ever had. Unreal.
This guy is unreal. Who was it that was worried about his route running? We all get them wrong - I never saw enough to comment on that, but he’s right on the money, big as Marshall, better attitude, great hands.
If he could cook I’d be in man-love
Can I change my score prediction to 42-7???
You are right TJ, royal is a little freak. Mighty mouse
Demaryius Thomas (sp?)
wow !
demarious rising
How did we get the first TD?
I like Christmas gifts early…and D Thomas is nice one. Fast and furious.
O+B,you and I are showing our age And, you’re right - 3-4, bend, don’t break, and don’t be afraid to get aggressive when you’re on the right call.
By the way, Jason Hunter affected that throw for Dawk - I’m seriously impressed with what he can do out of the OLB - WOLB this time, but I’ve seen he and Ayers switch off. I’m not sure about Haggan - health stuff made me miss the 1st Q - but this looks good
And I LOVE that D-Thom. Appreciate the late hit, Lofa!
This is like the Collier days (bend but dont break). Lovin the red zone INTs. I could used to this.
Hey, guys. Thanks for spending some time in the thread today.
Eddie Royal has pipes like Hulk Hogan!
That little Broncomaniac has been taking his vitamins!
Buck is very cool to let Walton spike the ball
I keep trying to watch the OL but I keep getting distracted by the razzle-dazzle.
OOOOhhhhh, shiny….
Excellent pressure on that 3rd down, if a little slow.
TD Eddie Royal ! yay Tacos !
Offense looks better every week, sometimes the execution is a little suspect but you can see the gameplan is sound imho.
A great special teams play early really helps, and the defense remains a concern.
Hello everyone & Go Broncos !
wooooooooooooooooooooooot. Give that man an extension
yay Champ Bailey !
Just open your wallet, Mr Bowlen. whatever Champ wants, Champ gets.
Red zone defense must improve
Go Broncos!
Lets see:Bronco Foam Hat: CheckBronco Hat on(small head): CheckDawkins Orange Jersey: Check
GO BRONCOS!
I want to see a complete game today. All phases firing on all cylinders. I’m all sweaty and worked up- lets go, lets go, LETS GO!!!!!
whew…
Martz is a great coordinator, and his responses were great, letting Cutler perform at a higher level. However - as the next half is played, it only takes one or two of those crushing sacks to change the offensive face of the Bears. It’s something that has concerned me with Martz’s approach, and at the back of some of the QB’s minds, it can be worrisome. More power to Cutler for handling it well so far.
Ahhh…made the mistake of assuming after seeing just one series. We all know what assuming does…
Cutler is on, for sure.
And I think Dallas responded to the Chicago blitzes with max protect and is using timing routes at midrange. I think mostly only 3 receivers are running routes. And they are targeting the sideline routes and the over the middle, making the Bears defend sideline to sideline. I think the Bears are going to spend some more time in nickel, and when they do, Barber starts running again.
Oh, someone is here! I’m watching that game, too (thanks NFL). I think Martz is calling a great game. He responded to the blitzes by running short slants just behind the LBs. Once Dallas pulled in the safeties, he ran a stacked go route to guarantee single coverage on one of the 2 stacked receivers and Knox beat the single. Martz gambled a little that the blitz wasn’t coming that play and won. That’s how I saw it, anyway.
Why would Dallas bring all out blitzes on consecutive plays when, well, it doesn’t appear that they need to blitz at all? (I realize that this comment falls short in the timely department, but I’ve been folding clothes…).
I think its an example of the arrogant recklessness that always seems to doom that team.
I hope you meant, Demarcus Ware, TJ.
Maybe the Cutler trade had nothing to do with #1’s or Orton, just sending him to the worst O-line in football was the key.
If Andre Ware decapitates JC today, it won’t have been too soon.
Long day ahead for Cutler. He is getting mauled.
Thanks, Dude. I appreciate the compliment.
Hey, TJ, I really like your stats today.
Great work.
