Farewell Eddie, we don’t wish you luck Lard 3-16-12

Happy Friday, Broncos fans! Mike Klis says it appears the Manning sweeps is down to Denver and Tennessee, with Miami having turned its attention to Matt Flynn and Arizona expected to be ruled out today with their Kevin Kolb roster bonus deadline looming. Mike Lombardi says the same.

Says Duke head man and Manning Family Coach David Cutcliffe about his pupil's health:

It’s incredible how much progress he’s made in throwing the football. He’s gotten his arm strength back and his accuracy is there. I’m not an NFL coach, of course, but I think I know what it takes to complete passes in the NFL, and it’s clear that Peyton can make all those throws.

From what I’ve seen, he’s right on target for that. Everybody knows what a hard worker he is, and he’s dedicated himself to getting ready for the season.

BTW, has anyone noticed that the Niners and Alex Smith still haven't agreed to a new contract yet?

Broncos

Denver will host Jameel McClain today and would make him their starting middle linebacker; new cap man Mike Sullivan was Marcus Trufant's longtime agent, helping the team's chances of landing him; Brady Quinn will visit the Jets today.

Jeff Legwold says the Broncos weren't planning to go after any big-time free agents pre-Manning anyway, so don't rue the "loss" of Mario Williams.

Been a little too busy to keep up on the Magary reading, but in his latest Funbag he suggests some reasonable demands that Peyton should be making of his suitors.

Sam DeWitt imagines Tim Tebow's departure from Denver. If the white text on black background hurts your eyes, Readability is a great solution. Actually, you should be using Readability anyway - it's free, it kicks ass, and your eyes will thank you.

AFC West

What an incestuous day in the AFCW; don't these teams know they all suck? Yet, they're keeping all this talent in-house...

Unfortunately, Eddie Royal has joined the MF Chargers on a three-year deal with $6M in guarantees. We had wished him luck in Washington, but we will not be doing the same regarding the Whale's Vagina.

KC signed ex-Raiders TE Kevin Boss to a three-year deal and met with Eric Winston and Mike Tolbert.

San Diego is trying to retain Tolbert, but they are also interested KC's Jackie Battle; the team lost safety Steve Gregory to New England.

Oakland lost Rock Cartwright to the Niners and will host G Mike Brisiel and CB Ron Bartell; they are also interested in Tracy Porter.

Trimmings

San Francisco released CB Shawntae Spencer and hosted Brandon Lloyd, Mario Manningham, and Chaz Schilens.

Arizona brought back Levi Brown a few days after having cut him; Miami added lineman Artis Hicks.

Vikings CB Chris Cook was acquitted on charges of beating up his girlfriend.

Bears GM Phil Emery says he doesn't yet know if BMarsh will be suspended for his latest model citizenry.

Cleveland's Mike Holmgren is whining about having lost out to Washington on the trade for the #2 pick, chalking it up to Shanny's tightness with Jeff Fisher. But as Doug Farrar points out, the reality is Shanny pwned Holmgren by being more aggressive. Again.
