Report: Gonzalez in at CBS; Sharpe and Marino out

Last updated: Feb 18, 2014 7:45 PM

According to John Ourand of SportsBusiness Daily, Shannon Sharpe and Dan Marino will no longer be part of the CBS studio crew, with Tony Gonzalez replacing one of them, and another hire expected.

We're extremely biased here, but this is incredibly disappointing news; the HOFer and Broncos ROFer had been with CBS Sports for 10 years.

Said CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus in a statement:

While we welcome Tony, we want to acknowledge Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe who have contributed greatly to the success of The NFL Today for more than a decade. Dan and Shannon are true Hall of Famers on the field and in front of the camera. As they pursue other professional opportunities, we thank them for their hard work and dedication and wish them nothing but the best.

Who knows, maybe a turn in the booth will be next for Shannon, who did a terrific job in that role during Denver's Week 6 game against Jacksonville last season.

Whatever happens, we wish the best for Shay.

Richard DeitschBob Raissman, Eric Edholm, and Aaron Gordon react to the news.

There's already speculation that Marino could return to Miami to run their football ops, where he would probably again be less successful than John Elway in Denver.
