Report: 49ers to hire Adam Gase as head coach

The San Francisco 49ers will hire Adam Gase to be their next head coach, according to Nate Lundy of The Fan. However, Mike Florio promptly followed his own tweet up by saying Gase and San Francisco had not yet agreed to terms.

Gase had a second interview with the Niners on Tuesday, before reportedly meeting with John Elway & Co. later that night.

News of Gase's expected hire arrives just on the heels of reports that Jack Del Rio will likely be coaching across the Bay in Oakland. In two seasons as Denver's OC, the 36-year-old led their offense to rankings of #1 in 2013 and #4 in 2014.

After Dennis Allen and Mike McCoy, that makes four coordinators under John Fox in Denver to have parlayed their Broncos jobs into head gigs (all in California, oddly).

The hirings of Del Rio and Gase would trim Denver's coaching search down to Gary Kubiak, Dan Quinn, Teryl Austin, and Rick Dennison.
