Doug has business today, so I'm filling in on the news desk. Check back periodically to see what moves the Broncos have been making, and drop us a comment in the section down below.
1:20 EDT - The Broncos have claimed OLB Adrian Robinson, who played for the Steelers as an undrafted free agent last season, and was in the Eagles camp this season. He's primarily been a special teams guy in his brief career. By placing a waiver claim, that means that the Broncos will have to waive/release somebody who thought they'd made the 53 yesterday.
Jacob Hester got called at 11 oclock last night: Released.— Mike Klis (@MikeKlis) September 1, 2013
1:24 EDT - Apparently, Jacob Hester is the guy who didn't make it. It makes sense, because Robinson can replace a lot of Hester's special teams value, and because the Broncos again don't portend to be big fullback users.
1:26 EDT - It's coming in fast and furious now. According to Cecil Lammey, the Broncos have added OT Paul Cornick, OT Vinston Painter, WR Gerrell Robinson, WR Tavarres King, DE John Youboty, OG-DT Ben Garland, and RB Edwin Baker to the practice squad. That should leave them with one more spot.
Cornick had a pretty solid preseason, and among the second and third team offensive linemen who played, I thought he was one of the best. Painter sucked but he was a 6th round pick this year, and he has some athleticism to be developed.
Robinson and King can also work on developing their games, knowing that they're an injury away from being called up.
I didn't see a whole lot from Youboty, but with the Broncos being a bit thin on the defensive line, it makes sense to have a practice squad guy there. The same goes for Ben Garland, who can also help out in practice on the offensive line as needed.
Baker was in the Chargers' camp, after they
signed him as an undrafted free agent drafted him in the 7th round last year. (H/T Doc Bear for catching my mistake.)
2:35 EDT - Here's the news from the official site, with biographical info.
