NYCBronco The funny thing is that one of the biggest plays Detroit made to get into the playoffs was in the 28-27 win over the Raiders (of which we appreciate!). Stafford was rolling out and just threw the ball to Johnson about 40 yards out. The ball was an easy 5-6 yards behind him, he had to completely adjust back through double coverage to make the catch. If Tebow even thinks of doing that throw, he'd get mercilessly attacked (ignoring the fact no Denver WR could make that adjustment) for the decision. But that was a season saver for Detroit, go figure.

yea, and that;s probably why he ended up throwing 3 picks. Having megatron helps too.

Tebow has a very good deep ball. It's not go Stafford's zip, but I'm not sure anyone else does. (Him & Rodgers can throw 40+ yards while scrambling, it's kind of insane)
But the thing I keep noticing, especially on highlights, is that the standard play for the deep ball is a jump ball that your 6'4"+ WR goes up to get. These aren't throws on their hands. Rodgers can occasionally make that sideline route throw in stride, but it's a fairly rare occurrence. These are simply jump balls. I don't think anyone trusts a Denver WR to win a jump ball throw. That's rough on a QB.
And since Tebow came up, I'm still quite amazed how against-type Tebow really is. He's progessing in a completely opposite manner to most QBs. He already throws a good, accurate deep ball (it's not Rodgers good, but it's "not many others can" good already) and can eat apart Zone defenses (from a Spread look). What he needs a whole lot of work on is short & intermediate routes and against Man coverage. Which is why he'll be around the League for quite a while, even if he doesn't become the starter for Denver past next year.
Doesn't mean Denver will win tomorrow or that Tebow isn't limited, at this point, but he's got a bright future, whether people really want to believe it or not. It may just end up being a Steve Young-type situation where it's at another team. (Speaking of Pittsburgh, they'd gladly pick up Tebow as a backup and develop him up. He's a lefty version of Big Ben, with a better character, haha)

Yeah I agree chantech... and I liked how Mayock was stressing things like, "It's the quarterback's job to throw it to that spot, and it's the receiver's job to make the break and get open." Couldn't help but think that those sort of incompletions would have been blamed on Tebow as well, though.

In fairness, having Megatron, Burleson and Pettigrew gives Stafford weapons Tebow sorely lacks. Also interesting to note how Stafford turned the ball over when the defense knew it was coming...seems to me that on some of the plays you allude to where Stafford throws to covered receivers he does so trusting them to make plays- I'm not sure Fox would allow an offense predicated on risk. Can anyone see Fox going on 4th as Sean Peyton did repeatedly? Remember the first half of NE? Overarching point is that Denver lacks the players and the coach to ever see offenses like Detroit or NO...but that does not mean Denver's system is uncompetitive, just that more must be done to increase and/or better utilize the team's talent. To that end I cite Ted's commentaries.

I think I speak for all of us when I say that I am VERY happy to see Sproles in another color besides powder blue.

Yay for Houston, it's about time!

Exactly. In the NFL, receivers will not get as "open" as they do in college nearly as often. That's why being able to put the ball in tight windows where only the receiver can catch it is so important.

For those complaining about our receivers not getting open - there's been a few plays that Detroit has completed where Stafford's receivers aren't actually open...plays where Tebow wouldn't even throw it.
