Enjoy the game, and Go Panthers!
whether or not the rules are in the best spirit of the game, they are written, and all the players were made aware of them. Duke, mouthing off in front of the official was not a good idea. That said, it seemed less extreme than grabbing someones facemask with both hands...
Nice STTNG reference.
There will always be some bias..
But with the grading system they have, if they are caught being blatant they flat wind up out of a job, or they NEVER get the PLUS Money during the playoffs.
For a ref that is big not to mention the prestigious nature of the games.
I Know that Ben was rarely allowed to ref a DEN game because he lived there. So he was always n the road going to games. So is there bias I suspect that some of them do not like traveling to various cities because of the players/coaches or fans.
I know that Ben did not like reffing in PHL mostly because of the fans.
A few years ago NLF films IIRC followed Ed Houckli around for a week showing what he did during an average week. I found it extraordinary..
I also knew way back Ben Drieth he was a ref during the 60-70's. He owned a body shop I got my car painted at, we talked for hours about some of the stuff he saw on the field as well as much the same stuff the special was about.
So many fans do not realize how much time they guys devote to the game while not on the field.
Most of them think they show up on game day a couple hours early to check out the field, then go home after the game. A few hours of work a week.
But they actually and make sure the balls are not tampered with weighed and measured and saved for the game under lock and key before the game. Do
was nice to hear Jon Gruden give props to Chris Harris and the rest of the OL... wait a minute...
I'm not questioning the professionalism of the NFL refs, they are biased, every human being is. It's like thrashing a journalist for being partial to a particular issue. There is not such thing as a neutral arbiter when faced with just empirical evidence.
that's a good response lonestar.. but it doesn't change what I see... blatant inconsistency and sometimes a double standard. I'm only flummoxed about trash talk being flagged. I just don't ever remember a ref having an ass that tight... and I can't imagine.. from what goes on and allegedly from a Redskins lineman.. what the refs are capable of themselves.. the whole thing has me scratching my head.
Indeed happening. There is no way that is going on.
Yet the refs are graded after each game by the home office. The weakest ones are not renewed after the season and the best ones are rewarded by playoff games up to and including the super blow.
Since these guys are paid lots of bucks, I suspect your thoughts on bias are less than correct. .
While it is not a full time job they often spend as much as 40 hours a week in travel, usually staying two nights in the game city night before and night after, they have to keep in shape more so than most 35+ year old males and that does not include the ref team meetings where they go over the past game after being graded and talk about the next game and the teams that are playing.
They have a book on each team telling them the stats on fouls called and what calls we're not made but seen after the fact. So they can keep an eye out for those things to call if the player tries them again.
I know that many beleive that some teams are favored by the refs, but that would mean it is sanctioned by the NFL and that crap would leak out if it was need
Add to the litany the fact he is never taken to task by the media, and the picture becomes even more distasteful.
Leave the field cursing out a ref; shake hands with nobody; put on the fake personality for the post game interview. Yep, that's Tom Brady.
Didn't see the whole game. I'm sure we'll get some good insight this week on what the IAOFM staff saw that the Broncos could exploit in the Belichickian/McHoodian borg that is the Patriots Way.
There once was a content BelichickWho thought he was going to win by a lickBut then he got shown upby a bunch of grown upsOnly to turn into a huge, giant dick
We live in a puritan society, NFL rules and enforcing of the rules are just a reflection of that.
Refs are as biased as every other person can be, so there's always going to inconsistency on the calls. At least until they are replaced or assisted by automated systems, kinda like tennis has been trying to do for the past 4 decades.
I feel bad for the reporters trying to do their jobs on BB press conferences. Must be so frustrating.
BB is the most biggest prick I have ever seen give an interview in a loss. God I hope we beat them next week.
Big win. Thanks Panthers
The famous Brady class. What a douche, seriously.
Cry some more, Tom Brady.
Guess Patriots will have to lose 2 in a row. Feel sad for them.
I want anybody ... to name me any other time in NFL history... ever...that words drew a flag.I'm sure that it isn't a first.. but come on..I can't remember any other time...
Did Shannon Sharpe get one for causing Derrick Thomas to melt down?
When did they suddenly crack down on this?We can only speculate what it was.. I don't want to be all obsessed and butthurt..but it does bug me.The NFL needs consistency.
Just like Flowers going after Welker .. no official around to hear... but Collinsworth is right there to cheer about how great it is.. then Ihenacho does it.. and he gets all sanctimonious... If you're going to call it.. be fair for both teams and be consistent for all games.
Again.. in my mind.. I don't think Ihenacho should have been flagged. Warned yes.. but that was very fkg heavy handed. One of the many lame happenings last night from the zebras.
That foul on Charles Johnson was really weaksauce. Of course it doesn´t surprise me that the refs didn´t call it.
True, but he´s physical at the line of scrimmage, and I don´t want to see Decker asking for a flag on every deep route.
Lots of top flight WR talent in the 2014 draft. If I'm the Panthers, I take two in the first three rounds.
Seems like that left hand injury Brady has could be worse than the Pats have let on... Either way he's a tough SOB and its not his throwing hand.
He can't stick DT or Deck anyway.
If Aqib commits an unspeakably stupid foul, he might end up with a 1-game ban, who knows? NE could end up banged up and undermanned.
That Panther front seven will welt you up.
This game looks like its going to be very physical and chippy. Might be a good time to catch New England on a short week.
No excuse for Ihenacho, but there is a lot of inconsistency with how those situations are officiated.
I enjoyed Jon Gruden reminiscing about that legendary Marvin Hearns/Tommy Hagler fight.
The Patriots´ pass rush is looking deficient right now. Carolina´s OL is really stonewalling them in the middle, and their edge rushers are taking too long. On the other hand, outside runs aren´t looking good. The outside LBs aren´t easily fooled, and they´re fast.
Fortunately there was that fumble, because that series was BS. 2 consecutive stops negated by the refs away from the ball?
Patriots always seem to be on the good side of tacky penalty calls.
Ihenachos probably went too far on his word selection and he happened to be just in the ref's face. I think it was the same idiot ref that didn't flag the offensive pass interference on the Chiefs TD.
IDK how in the wholy fuck.. Talib gets away with that a SECOND time.. and Ihenacho was flagged for just talking. That's some bullshit right there.
The NFL officiating needs to make up it's mind. In my mind.. the Ihenacho flag was still completely ridiculous. Talib earned a few flags there.. the crew seemed reluctant on the first (completely obvious) one.. and then no call on that second?
ihenacho got screwed.
Talib just may get ejected.
