Discuss the opening round of the 2014 Draft with fellow IAOFM readers
And on the field, too - Manziel can throw the ball into the same zip code he's aiming at.
Always have to wonder if John passed on that chance also.
SO we could get the 9th best DB in the draft
Sounded to me he REPORTED what he knew. An amazing concept.
As for all the others, I taped the whole thing and fast forwarded past everyone else's pick other than the announcement.
One can only hope that mayock will have lost his voice mid day tomorrow.
Sorry we IMO wasted a pick on a CB that can not find the ball when it is in the air.
This may be Johns Fubar. Let hope they get an actual player that CAN in the next two days.
But the sequel can't be exactly like the original. In fact, Manziel might be the anti-Tebow off the field.
I just read that. Really good insight into the OSU scheme change that Bradley experienced in his junior year.
interesting writeup on Roby:
found it. 2nd (no 40) and 4th (no 108)... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
What did they get? Minnesota's 2nd, plus?? I hate that the Broncos couldn't trade down.
Oof. Hate that the Seahawks got that trade.
Gotta love his upside.
Friggin' Mayock jizzes on every pick-- even the reaches-- and then pisses on Roby. Of course, Mayock also called Ayers the best defender in his draft.
"his recent arrest may have hurt him" lovely
Wow! You called it! Good one.
Great. I'm happy with this choice.
not sure why they wouldn't spend more time on the clock?
Bradley Roby Welcome to Denver
I'll be fine with whoever the Broncos decide to get, but I hope they take Marqise Lee right here.
Patriots pass on a QB.
Other than Van Noy, who might not fit, there is nobody I'm jonesing for left-- so I'd be all for it.
You're going to make your WR1 a rookie project?
Carolina is stupid. Really stupid.
NFL Network said a while ago that Cleveland was trying to get back into the first round again. Maybe they're dealing with everyone at the same time.
Everybody is using up the whole clock, trying to trade. Might not be a market.
I am hoping somebody who wants Carr/Bridgewater/etc. will offer us a boatload of picks for #31.
That's a good point. I bet that has some weight as well. We'll see what happens.
Right, but if the extra pick gets you another starter, would you rather have two starters for four years or one for five?
Is it necessarily better? Ted posted this on his mock thread.
"Trading down into the second round carries a cost with it now, that I think is a little better understood. If you pick a guy 31st, and he’s good, you can lock him up unilaterally for a fifth season by guaranteeing the average of all of the salaries between the 3rd- and 25th-highest paid players at his position.
If you take a guy 33rd, you don’t have that option. It used to be better to be in the top of the second round, but the paradigm has shifted."
Trade with Cleveland, maybe?
Yep, it seems like the smart move at this point.
I wouldn't be surprised. I'd prefer it actually considering the "economics" favor that type of decision no matter who the prospect was.
If New England gets Bridgewater, I'm going to throw up.
Klis thinks Broncos are likely to trade out of first round now.
At the very least, he'll replace Tebow as the QB in heavy rotation every damn day on their network. I guess he's already done that. I don't watch enough ESPN to really say.
not so sure atleast tebow is not a pussy hound and IIRC does nto drink himself into a stupor.
NOW if your talking circus probably pretty close.
And there goes Verret to the Chargers
an option guy that on 30 other teams probably would not have beat us.
Pretty sure the OZ is pretty mobile for a guy his size.
Then if your OL is worth a crap you can stand tall in the pocket and make plays.
From Walter Football's draft analysis of Dee Ford, KC's new first-rounder, dated 5 May:
"Multiple teams have told WalterFootball.com that Ford has graded out as a late second-rounder. However, they could see a foolish team reaching for him at the end of the first round.
Damn... Cincinatti took Darqueze
I guess it was just a quarter ton of yards..
Bet this is one of the reasons we went out and got ware. Romo or who ever they have next year will not be getting that many again...............
Wait wait we will not see them
Manziel = Tebow part 2 #FactoryOfSadness https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Cleveland followed an excellent trade down with two pretty dumb ones to move up.
It's always interesting to see how wrong Mel Kiper is year in and year out.
Hahahaha! Almost word for word the text I just received from my friend.
As someone wrote a few days ago, Manziel had a tough enough road ahead. But adding the Cleveland factor makes it seem unfair. He is doomed.
Looks like I spoke too soon. They jumped up to 22 to get their guy!
He's only 6'-0" Harris could cover him in his sleep.
Su'a Filo is my guess.
This kinda screams the Browns picking Brady Quinn all over again. They picked another guy early, then jumped back into the 1st to get him. Here we are again, they picked another guy early, and Manziel could very well still be there when they pick again at 26. Of course, Bridgewater and Carr are still there too.
I really don't want to see Marqise Lee go to the Chiefs.
Right! We are on the same wave-length. I don't think they'll take one, I just think they'll get a lot of calls from other teams if they happen to be there at the end of the round.
I guess I was unclear. I do not imagine the Broncos take a QB unless they plan to trade him.
Elway is a GM pure and simple. Brock's contract looks like it will run out before Manning retires, so our leverage on him might be minimal. That being said, I think Elway would prefer to trade up or down here, but if that trade is not in the works, let's see what they do. I can't see Elway grabbing Manziel, but then again, we just got our asses handed to us in the super-bowl by a option QB.
Oh.... Whoops, haha.
I think if Johnny or Teddy falls to us, we'll definitely see interest from Houston, Cleveland, Oakland, and Minnesota
I don't mean the Broncos take one. I just wonder if someone will make the Broncos an offer for the pick ??
GMTA, Alaskan... see below.
It might be bad business for Elway to pick a QB in the first round when he has already told Brock something different. It's interesting to say the least, but I don't think Elway pulls the trigger if it comes down to it.
As to what I think, I think they should trade back and get more assets. From articles I read today I think that the economic arguments support that theory.
Does anybody want the #31 pick for one of the QB's ??
Saints got Brandin Cooks, He's gonna be great in the slot for them. And didn't have to give up much for him.
The run is on for defense and o-line.
Our entire BPA approach may get very very interesting with the number of QB's sliding into the back half here.
Please let the QB slide continue so the Broncos can get value for that 31st pick!! Some team has got to want the 5th year option on Manziel/Bridgewater/Carr
517 total yards. Incredibly, they outgained us by five yards in that game.
Well they did give up a Ton to us IIRC.
Yeah, I went over to NFL Network. Not great, but less irritating.
Two of my three favorites back to back.
Gruden's relentless Manziel fixation has driven me from the ESPN broadcast.
They have a real HC that still has a heartbeat, who was a decent DC for us.
He just may a long term peace they need.
With Shazier and Mosley gone, and the top 2 CBs gone (Dennard soon, I am sure), is it too early to think about trading back?
Damn.... Another one off the board
That graph is too much for me, haha
Wow. The Cowboys allowed the third most yards in NFL history last year?
He's accurate because Schottenheimer's offense rarely throws the ball more than four yards downfield.
Bradford hasn't produced of late, but I have a higher opinion of him. He has the most accurate arm in the NFL and his decision making has really improved since he came out of college.
I think if you were to compare Bradford to Harrington in one way though, they both can't stay on the field. That I will give you.
So is NFL Network. They just announced this.
CBS Draft Tracker (online)
Wow. ESPN is at least 3 minutes behind you. What are you watching/listening to ?
And, as if on cue, there go Fuller and Shazier.
Fuller's gone, too.
"He is a savage!" according to Gruden.
Didn't the Rams already have a great D ?Their problems start with Bradford.Nice guy, but the second coming of Joey Herrington.
There goes Shazier.
PITT just took Ryan Shazier. Dang.
Another pass rusher for the Rams. That division is just going to pound on each other.
Now it gets interesting. 14 through 21 is where the players linked to Denver should start coming off the board.
I'd rather listen to Ted Bundy's thoughts on the draft.
If Jerry Jones worried about cap hits, you would have a very salient point.
You can use many words to describe EA, but desperate probably is not one of them.
He's got Tony Romo for 5 more years. The cap hit would probably be prohibitive.
The Rams should take Bridgewater or Manziel here. but they'll compound the Bradford mistake again instead.
There is a god.The top 11 players on my board were the first 11 picked (not in the order that I have them). It actually is not necessarily a good thing, since I had hoped that more QBs would go and that some highly ranked players would start to fall some.Maybe in the next 11.
Now hold up, we are talking about Jerry Jones here. I wouldn't be surprised by ANYONE he picks.
Yeah, but maybe the team that was offering was further back than they wanted to go. THe compensation was more, but they may not have wanted miss out on their guy either.
There is no way on earth Jerry Jones passes on him.
If Johny Football doesn't get piked here pretty quick, he's going to be around near the end of the round.... Interesting opportunities.
Bridgewater first, well ahead of Manziel and Carr, with Bortles fourth.
How much did EA pay Sanders?? Holy crap, they're desperate to sell games....
I think Barr could be awesome. He's only played linebacker for two years and he racked up 23.5 sacks and 43 tackles for loss. Unteachable closing speed.
That's a possibility. I would guess a team who would move up more than one spot would have to give up more than the Browns did though?
I hadn't heard much about this guy. All the talk had been Mack, Mosely, and Shazier. Maybe just around here it was those guys and other places Anthony Barr was the hot topic.
otherwise a drop to cowboys at 16
Who did you have over him (in order) out of curiosity?
Vikings and Maziel?
The Vikings gave up 239 passing touchdowns last year, so they might have been eyeballing Gilbert, too. Cleveland might have suckered them a bit with all the Johnny Football noise.
Someone else was probably threatening move ahead of them and get the guy they want. The Vikes gave the Browns the opportunity to up the offer.
Yep, still the Browns
I just saw... Wtf??
And they just traded from 9 to 8, so, yeah, they're still Cleveland.
I had him fourth among the available quarterbacks. I guess we'll see what happens.
Yeah, but also have to put those great picks to good use...
Kind of amazing that Cleveland has made two great trades amid all their embarrassing shenanigans over the last year.
I'm dealing with Ray the Knife because his role is less than the unsufferably self serving Deion on NFL Network.
FYI Ted's live analysis is up in a separate post
I thought Johnny Manziel was Spicoli there
Been thinking this but i'd honestly rather have Carr than either of them. Would be fine picking a qb though.
I'm putting my nuts in a blender, it's much better than listening to Ray Lewis
What would you think if Johnny or Teddy fell to us at 31 and we took one of them?
I'm watching online. There's a bit of a delay, but it's much better than listening to Ray Lewis.
I can't believe I have to fucking listen to Ray Lewis bullshit every 30 seconds for 30 seconds
I like the pick, I think UCF probably didn't have the ability to build him up and so maybe now in the NFL he can improve further.
Now as for the Bills giving up so much for a WR??? Not so much.
Hahahaha...I see what you did there.
C'mon Oakland... Manziel is sitting there for you... take him!!!
I hate when the Raiders do something smart.
Would have never guessed that Khalil Mack was going to be a bust.
gamble the entire farm on a WR, does this ever work? Buffalo...
Per Ted: "This is a tough call over Carr and Teddy Bridgewater, but I think it’s a Raiders kind of pick. To me, QB is the only option for this team."
Looks like the Jags are trying to out Raider the Raiders. Bwahaha!
There goes that Blake Bortles to Denver rumor. Guess the Broncos wouldn't pony up enough to the Jags so the Jags picked him to spite us. Hahaha.
Blake to Jacksonville. Feels like Gabbert all over again.
I can see why JAX likes him though.
Oh, Jacksonville. You're so Jacksonville.
Von and Ware, no doubt.
Clowney isn't a proven commodity. I think a good tackle can contain him. He's only 266 lbs, which means he won't always set the edge against the run well either.
So who's scarier: Watt and Clowney or Von and DeMarcus Ware?
I was just asking where this was.
