Enjoy the games, everyone, and Go Jaguars!
Here are the day's inactives.
Vince Young is a terrible QB for a decent team, but I think he's the perfect QB for a crappy, talent-starved team like Jacksonville. Witness Terrelle Pryor in Oakland. At the very least, it's not like he could make them much worse.
Jerome Bettis fumbled once every 85 carries. For context, Terrell Davis fumbled once every 82 carries, Barry Sanders fumbled once every 75 carries, and Emmitt Smith fumbled once every 72 carries.
Perception is a funny thing. Jerome Bettis was one of the less fumble-prone backs in the league, especially in his later years, it's just that the most famous play of his career happened to be a fumble.
Well, they did just nearly beat one of the better teams in the NFC on the road. If we go by superbowl odds, Vegas has both Chicago and Cincinnati at 25:1. I thought both teams looked like solid playoff squads. No shame in losing by 3 on the road to a playoff team in week 1.
Also: A.J. Green.
My point was that the Broncos already look like they're coming together as a team, even though it's the first week.
I can't think of a single Free Agent QB that would make the Jaguars any better than they are. Can you?
98% of Steelers fans would cheerfully fire Tomlin tonight if it meant Cowher would come back.
He's a cheap shot artist with no respect or regard for his peers. If he's of above average intelligence, then more's the pity.
I live near Pittsburgh, and on the local call-in show after the game, there were fans calling for Tomlin to be fired. I don't think that he will be, but the OC (Todd Haley) may be in a few weeks.
Or conversely, Collinsworth, having a 21 minutes to 9 ToP advantage, having recovered 3 turnovers, but winning by only 13 to 10 makes the Cowboys quite pathetic, and the Giants a team able to bend but not break.
The Giants are in major trouble with their defense, looks like. Coverage and tackling aren´t going well. But this comedy of errors isn´t as entertaining as it could be, really. The Cowboys don´t look like juggernauts at all. Very inefficient.
And dont forget...we won they lost!
Green and white just took his shirt off.
Wow, the Jets won. I don't have to watch the presser to know that Rex Ryan, after making it well known he knew he was a lame duck coach and just didn't give a crap, is now all smiles galore and thumbing his nose at everyone who declared the Jets were done like dinner before the season even started.
But we all know the ride will be short lived and it's just a matter of time before the comedy returns to the green and white,
Yeah, Schatz of Football Outsiders declared just this week that when you compare weekly DVOA (in pair of weeks, so 1-2, 3-4, etc) with overall DVOA at the end of the year, besides weeks 15-16 (because of teams that rest starters), by far, the least significant correlation is with weeks 1-2. By week 3 we´ll begin to know the identity of each team with statistical consistency.
The media, perhaps, but Steelers ownership is generally patient with its coaches and front office and understands down years will happen. Bill Cowher had his share of bad seasons and never lost his job because of it.
First game of the season.
I meant that his interviews denote a keen mind, but point taken, his demeanor leaves something to be desired away from the game.
There was a lot of bad football played today. Makes me feel that much better about the Broncos and PMFM.
For the life of me, I can´t understand how so many pundits are predicting them as SB winners. Sure, there´s talent, but they still haven´t showed steadiness, poise under pressure or savvy during the crucial moments.
Time will tell being the operative word, both for Lacy and Montee.
Amendola came back and did his Welker impersonation. Led to a last second field goal for the win.
That's why the Bills are the Bills - they should have beaten NE last year also, but gave it away.
That's why they're the Bengals - no discipline, no organization, no brains.
Lacy had a pretty good second half in limited opportunities. He kind of reminds me of Jerome Bettis (who also fumbled a bit). Time will tell if he turns out to be that good, or if he ever gets to play with a decent offensive line.
He isn't stupid off the field? He's a menace when driving.
They Raiders have been torn apart from within for the last decade.
Do you mean Cassell or Orton?
That team got old and shitty really fast. They will scapegoat the shit out of Tomlin for it.
He always gets injured in odd years.
KC might turn out to be not half-bad. Alex Smith, while no Tebow, is light-years better than cAssel. I just had a strangely satisfying thought....what if Allen gets fired, and the Raiders bring McDaniels in for the HC position? Oh, that makes me smile....watching the Raiders get torn apart from within would be so, so satisfying.
They had Tebow??
It looks so. The Steelers looked pretty bad as well. They may be picking second the way they are going.
Jamal Charles runs for 77yds and a TD...then gets hurt. The more things changes...
Well, the Colts couldn´t contain him at all and showed horrendous discipline on the edge in particular, which shouldn´t be a problem against Denver, given the prowess against the run of both Shaun Phillips and Von Miller. So yeah, Pryor would have to beat Denver´s pass coverage and pass rush from the pocket, and I doubt that happens.
Well, Eddie Lacy just lost a fumble in his own red zone. Not that this is particularly significant, but maybe it can help alleviate some of the premature second-guessing about our stable of RBs.
Isn't that the cliche you need these guys to be able to pocket pass when it counts
Trevathan didn´t cost the Broncos the game, though. Lavonte David may well have made a considerable hole in the Bucs´ season, considering their division isn´t a walk in the park.
Suh is unbelievable. I mean, he isn´t stupid off the field, clearly, but he persists in courting suspensions in non-crucial plays, or at the worst possible moments. I can´t wrap my head around his motivations.
Same punishment as Trevathan. Guess who's filling the water bottles and carrying them back and forth during training :D
I agree, and their record will be worse without a doubt, but I expected some aspects of the team to be a little better. But the OL is still a disaster, the D wouldn´t strike fear in a hypochondriac mouse´s heart, and the play-calling is a bit dubious.
Rey Maualuga and LaVonte David both cost their teams the game today, both on personal foul calls. Felt bad for Josh Freeman and Doug Martin, who both had a great drive to grab a short-lived lead.
Colts were insanely fortunate last year. Only Luck's development will prevent some serious backsliding this season.
The good news today? Jacksonville looked far suckier than the Raiders. Maybe they will get the first overall pick.
Typical Husker behavior.
Wicked enough, I guess. To be honest, I´m happy for Geno Smith, but having to hear Ryan´s speech after this victory must require some special power of cognitive dissonance, because this sure as heck doesn´t announce a playoffs-bound Jets team.
Make him attend Sexy Rexy's speeches for the rest of the season.
So, what kind of punishment would you mete to the TB player responsible for that 25-yard penalty?
Yes, it was quite spectacular in a terrible way
I watched the game, and let me tell you, the Colts´ defense is awful. Awful. The Raiders could have won, had it not been for Pryor ´s head-scratchingly bad decision-making in the last set of downs (but being fair, his scrambles were the biggest reason Oakland was in the game to begin with).
And did you see the last minute of the game? What kind of hellish ineptitude was that, on both sides of the ball?
Flip flop....I feel like Obama.
I'm surprised that KC could win without McDaniel's favorite QB.
Is Kansas City decent or is Jacksonville really just this bad? And why aren't the Raiders losing by 30? Gotta love kickoff weekend.
Awesome. Seeing them lose has become as satisfying as seeing the Raiders lose. Wait, Raiders are winning? WTF?
Patriots are losing to the Bills and Amendola is already hurt.
Biggest question I have from week one: how can they POSSIBLY make a full series out of Sleepy Hollow?
Jacksonville is garbage. Hot garbage.
Amazing start by Tampa Bay. 3 delay of games and 2 timeouts used on the first drive due to helmet malfunction - result was a 3 & 35... :D
