This figures to be a busy day as far as coaching gigs go, so check back for updates and analysis.

Official firings: Rob Chudzinski (CLE), Leslie Frazier (MIN), Mike Shanahan (WAS), Greg Schiano (TB), Jim Schwartz (DET)

Broncos: Jack Del Rio and Adam Gase are possible candidates for the Minnesota job, and Cleveland has asked to interview Gase

Joe Banner and Mike Lombardi fired Rob Chudzinski after just one season.

This has led to speculation that Lombardi wants to hire his buddy Josh McDaniels, with Adam Gase, Jim Schwartz, and Ken Whisenhunt also in the mix.

Rex Ryan will be back with the Jets next year, but it's unclear whether he'll have a contract extension or be a lame duck.

It's been reported that GM John Idzik has been pushing Rexy to make some changes to his defensive staff.

The Jets got to 8-8 with a 20-7 defeat of Miami, which would have clinched the #6 seed with a victory.

According to Mike Silver, there's a good chance Dennis Allen is back with the Raiders for another season.

The Texans were planning to interview Ken Whisenhunt today, but with the Chargers now in the playoffs, they would have to wait at least a week to do so. Houston was reportedly working on a deal with PSU coach Bill O'Brien, so it will be interesting to see whether they wait for Whiz and risk losing O'Brien to another vacancy.

Following two big losses to the Bills and Jets, owner Stephen Ross says he's not sure about whether GM Jeff Ireland and coach Joe Philbin will be back. There's talk that Ireland might be out. (via PFT)

Leslie Frazier has been fired with one season left on his contract. The Vikings went 21-32-1 during his tenure.

Minnesota is reportedly interested in both Broncos coordinators Jack Del Rio and Adam Gase as potential replacements for Frazier.

We've known for weeks now that Dan Snyder would be firing Mike Shanahan, and now it's occurred.

John Clayton says Baylor coach Art Briles, A&M coach Kevin Sumlin, and Stanford's David Shaw are the leading candidates to replace Shanny.

Tampa Bay

The Bucs have fired GM Mark Dominik and noted dickhead Greg Schiano, who is now free to pursue the PSU gig after Bill O'Brien leaves

While Jim Schwartz said he wanted to keep his gig, it wasn't to be, and he's been fired.

The Lions lost 14-13 to the woeful Vikings in the final game at the Metrodome.

With their 24-22 loss to Philly last night, the Cowboys missed the playoffs with their third straight 8-8 finish under Jason Garrett. It's also the third consecutive season their fate was decided by a do-or-die SNF loss in Week 17.

Owner Jerrah Jones says he remains committed to Garrett; no word on whether he's considered firing GM Jerrah Jones.

DC Mike Nolan received a two-year contract extension

Will Brinson tracks the moves and rumored candidates.

Chris Burke and Doug Farrar break down the firings.

Chase Stuart looks back at the rare examples when a GM inherited a head coach and kept him beyond a single season, as Idzkik has done with Ryan.
