Knowshon Moreno injured, will not play Sunday

The DP is reporting that Knowshon Moreno is out for Sunday’s matchup with the Colts after sustaining an undisclosed injury in practice today. This leaves Laurence Maroney, Correll Buckhalter and Andre Brown as the healthy running backs who will dress. The Colts have allowed an average of 188.5 rushing yards over the first two weeks of the season.

I&#8217m thinking that Maroney could be in for a big day if Buck struggles early.

This will be interesting if it affects the game plan. None of the other RBs have Moreno&#8217s all around game (run/catch). Orton may have a huge day.

Come on, ND, I hope Brown, et al. have a great game against the Colts, but Moreno has done well with what he&#8217s been handed - and in some cases, better. Such as the 45 yarder where he evaded TWO defenders just to get past the line of scrimmage&#8230

A part of me is happy about that. Moreno hasn&#8217t done squat and I&#8217d like to see someone else get a shot. I know&#8230it could all be the lines fault, but then again, maybe he isn&#8217t that good.

Thanks Ponderosa, great information. I sort of get tired of people blithely blaming players like Moreno or Harris for being &#8220brittle&#8221 or even lazy when there is a lot of stuff we don&#8217t see or understand. I&#8217m sure he&#8217s as frustrated as anyone.

There is frequently an imbalance between the muscles on the front of the upper leg (the quadriceps) and those on the back of the leg (hamstrings) which cause the tighter muscles to be overstretched and thus tear. It is typically a problem for faster players such as running backs and DB&#8217s and WR&#8217s. It can be reduced in frequency by balanced lifting and stretching, but never eliminated entirely. From all reports our strength and conditioning coach Rich Tuten is one of the very best in all of sports, but there are individual susceptibilities that cannot always be overcome even with proper training. It tends to be a lingering injury since scar tissue contracts and makes the muscle even more likely to tear if not stretched properly.

It sounds like it may be a pulled hamstring again, but a different one than the last one. So not super serious, but enough to keep him out of this game and possibly next.

Does anyone with more familiarity with medical stuff and training staffs know if it&#8217s fair to wonder about either KnowMo&#8217s conditioning or the training staff if he keeps having these issues? Or is it just bad luck? Not trying to place blame, just curious and concerned.

Demayrius mentioned that they were practising hard this week. What a shame to see KnoMo get hurt at such an inopportune time.

At least we&#8217ll be able to see what we&#8217ve got in Maroney and Brown.

Bummer.

I was thinking this game would be a breakout for Knowshon (I think that every week, actually), but we should still be able to run on these guys. It&#8217s time to see what Maroney can bring to the table.

I thought the OLine and TEs did very well in pass pro last week and it seems like they are going in the right direction. I&#8217m cautiously optimistic that we can keep the Indy DEs in check and keep the O rolling. There is no sense in rushing Harris back for this particular game. Yes, this is maybe the best pair of DEs we&#8217ll play all year, but after missing so much time, he would likely struggle against the likes of Freeney and Mathis anyhow.

Well, the timing of the Maroney trade has turned out to be quite fortunate for Denver, and poor for the Pats, with Kevin Faulk now out for the year. So it&#8217s not all bad luck&#8230

ARGGHHHHHHHH.

I like our backups, I really do, but the Broncos do not need more injuries vs the Colts, who have to be licking their chops at this point.

Why do I feel like our team is cursed? (Okay, other teams have had terrible injuries this year but so many annoying ones for Denver.) Brown and Maroney in particular have to step right in. I don&#8217t see Buck helping much, sorry to say. Time to throw, a lot.

Seriously bad news. I thought he ran very hard last week even though his average was poor, and his recieivng out of the backfield was a great weapon.
