Per multiple reports, the Jets have hired Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles as their new head coach. Bowles, who interviewed in Denver after Mike Shanahan was fired, reportedly got a four-year deal.
According to Manish Mehta, the Jets locked up Bowles in part due to uncertainty about whether they could land Dan Quinn, reported to be their first choice. Quinn is also said to be a candidate for the Broncos' head job, so the Bowles signing takes out one of Denver's main competitors for the Seattle DC.
FWIW, Dianna Marie Russini reports that Quinn's first choice is Atlanta. Meanwhile, Jason La Canfora suggests the Falcons are hot for Teryl Austin, with whom they have a second interview scheduled later this week.
The Broncos have requested an interview with Austin, Detroit's first-year defensive coordinator.
