Jacob Tamme leaves Broncos, signs with Falcons

Jacob Tamme has indeed opted to join the Atlanta Falcons over re-signing with Denver, where he spent his last three seasons:

I'm thankful for my @Broncos teammates & coaches and very much enjoyed my time being in Denver. A great organization and city.

Methinks Maxx Williams will be considered at 28.

If top 5 OT are there, then one will likely be taken. But if not, opens up Maxx, Perryman, Kendricks or even QB (hundley/petty) as options.

Tamme will almost certainly get more playing time in ATL than here... can't blame him for wanting that opportunity.
I think this is also somewhat the downside of letting Fox go... without coaching continuity, it makes it much harder for our players to justify "home-town discounts" and the like. Kubes is an unknown variable, so if you're getting an unknown, other considerations like playing time and/or money get a bigger premium.

We still have a ton of young talent, and will likely continue to be generally well managed and winning. But it isn't a complete surprise that FA fishing was a bit tougher this year.

I liked Tamme. I wish him well with the Falcons. Hope he catches 50 passes this season.

Ha! I love the hype on JDD. I'm still thinking we draft one but your point is well made. It's too bad because Tamme was a locker room guy. Worked hard and did whatever was asked but we need some development players below Green and Daniels.

The main reason being reported is cash flow. All guaranteed money for salaries have to be put in "escrow". By reducing his guaranteed money by 4 million, it helps the team's finances.

One more thing on why this rumor doesn't make sense (and surprise surprise, it's comp pick related!): Ted Thompson has an amazing streak running of refusing to sign UFAs for purposes of hoarding comp picks (it stretches over multiple seasons). Right now, the Packers' lost/gained ratio is 2/0, getting two 4ths for Davon House and Tramon Williams. Absolutely no way Thompson puts those at risk.

If Welker does sign with the Packers, it'll be after June 1.

Yeah, I didn't get that rumor at all. They already have Cobb and Nelson as their big dogs, and Davante Adams looked awesome for a rookie in the playoffs. The only thing I can think of is that Welker really wants to be the only guy to catch passes from Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, *and* Aaron Rodgers.

I figured this would happen, just wasn't sure when. With Green and Daniels in the fold Tamme would have needed to sign for near the veteran minimum, and you can't blame him for finding a better deal elsewhere. Plus, the Falcons really need TE help, that position has been a disaster for them ever since Gonzalez retired.
