It sure is rough making tens of millions in profits

Good Afternoon, Broncos fans! Several notable rookies made their preseason debuts this weekend.

Houston linebacker Jadeveon Clowney flashed some of what made him the first overall pick, but had some rough moments as well.

Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer also put up mixed performances, but Manziel reportedly did enough to pull slightly ahead.

Greg Gabriel saw plenty of promise from Manziel, and thinks it's inevitable he overtakes Hoyer for good.

St. Louis DE Michael Sam created some pressure on Friday night, but the tea leaves tell Mike Tanier that Sam will be a late cut, to be picked up by another team.

Videos: John Fox, Rahim Moore, Derek Wolfe, Montee Ball, and Juwan Thompson speak after Saturday's practice.

Ball has dropped five pounds since his appendectomy, which he called a "painless procedure." There's reportedly still a chance he returns during the preseason.

Fox says the team is confident in their current group of backs, but added that C.J. Anderson is still experiencing headaches from the concussion he suffered on Thursday.

Emmanuel Sanders was also held out, due to a thigh injury; Lauren Giudice, Andrew Mason, and Jeff Legwold recap practice.

Brock Osweiler's rough patches on Thursday kept Zac Dysert from getting a chance to play.

Broncos Analysis

Not much new here, but David DeChant discusses Julius Thomas's continuing growth, while Legwold checks in on Denver's redshirted defenders.

Mike Klis profiles Sanders, while apparently suggesting that Tim Tebow and Bradley Van Pelt worked harder than Peyton Manning does.

Despite early camp raves, Woody Paige could see Quinton Carter not making the 53-man roster.

Mark Kiszla is ready to declare that Osweiler will never win an NFL playoff game, and that Teebs is better than him.

For his one season in the Yankees' farm system, John Elway has been elected to the NY Penn League's HOF.

News

Mark Emmert says the NCAA will appeal Friday's ruling in the O'Bannon lawsuit.

Multiple teams are reportedly interested in trading for holdout Niners guard Alex Boone; Cincy added QB Tyler WIlson; former Chargers and Pats safety Steve Gregory is retiring.

The Bills posted a reported $30M-40M in operating profits last year, which is an interesting contrast to the late Ralph Wilson's cries of poverty.

Chip Kelly exhibited a rather interesting method of adjusting the mouthpiece on his headset the other night.

Analysis

Team previews/Camp reports: Chicago (Andy Benoit); Oakland (PFF).

As this excellent Times article details, Deion Sanders' prep school is built on just as much bullshit as one would expect.

Since the NFL realigned in 2002, no SB champions have emerged from divisions they dominated.
