This week’s awards are easy. The 4-3 formation and all of the variants that Wink Martindale sent against the Jets was predicted by many of the staff and members of IAOFM.com, but the way that Wink used it was a job to see.
One of the keys to that 4-3 was Kevin Vickerson, who had to go out with a groin pull (ouch). After he did, Denver wasn’t as effective, which tells you how important Vickerson was this week. Thanks for the effort, Kevin. It was a great job.
But the Heavy this week goes to utility lineman Marcus Thomas, who reminded a lot of people why he was once considered a 1st-round talent. He fought like a wild stallion on the line, and it’s not always that he gets to start. Congratulations, Marcus. You earned the Heavy this week!
On the offensive side, I’m going to vote with TJ and surprise a few people - the award goes to center JD Walton. JD was caught a few times - caught badly - and has all the things to learn that a rookie center has to learn. Even so - he did a heck of a job opening up the running game (his block on Knowshon Moreno’s long run was great) and fighting like heck to keep Kyle Orton upright long enough to gain the yards Denver needed. Congratulations, JD - and thanks for a heck of a job.
