Notes/Gut Reactions

  1. It was reported on Twitter that Denver had signed Florida corner Loucheiz Purifoy, but according to Jeff Legwold, that is not the case. Purifoy's UF career was marred by two marijuana-related arrests.
  2. Mister Cobble is about as good as it gets when it comes to names. My wife and I were just saying how we didn't have a name for if we have another boy someday...
  3. A punter! Of course, Denver foolishly handed Britton Colquitt a $3M signing bonus last year, and a $500K roster bonus in March. Cutting him would leave $2.25M in dead money. In other words, Clark would have to absolutely decimate Colquitt in camp and preseason to beat him out. Only 10 of his 56 punts from the past two seasons were returned. BTW, he played tight end and defensive end in high school.
  4. Sterling is a native of Queens, NY and started his post-HS career at Nassau Community College. I know most of you don't care, but as a native Long Islander, this is very exciting!
  5. Burse scored twice on punt returns last year, averaging 12.5 yards on 21 returns. BTW, he also caught 100 passes and scored eight touchdowns from scrimmage (six receiving, two rushing). Among wideouts at the combine, he tied for the third best 20-yard shuttle time and tied for ninth best in bench reps and three-cone drill time.
  6. The surgery that ended Renner's career was on his left (non-throwing) shoulder.
  7. Bibbs put up 24 reps in Indy, a figure bettered by only two other backs.
  8. Fowler's 130-inch broad jump tied for fifth best among wideouts at combine; his 20-yard shuttle time was 15th best.
  9. Denver is over the 90-man roster limit by two; they'll have to make a pair of cuts if they're to sign all 15 of these UDFAs.
  10. Here are some more notes, from the official site.
  11. The Miami Hurricanes had tweeted out that DT Curtis Porter signed with Denver, but that apparently did not happen.
