Coaching Carousel: Zimmer lands with Vikings, is bringing Norv with him

Last updated: Jan 16, 2014 10:14 AM

The Vikings announced their hiring of Bengals DC Mike Zimmer as their new head coach on Wednesday.

Zimmer is expected to name Norv Turner his OC, with Miami LB coach George Edwards his DC.

With Zimmer's departure, it's said that Cincy will promote LB coach Paul Guenther to take over their defense.

That leaves Cleveland as the last remaining vacancy.

If the Browns are insistent upon holding out for Adam Gase, and he sticks to not interviewing until the Broncos' season is over, then their wait could be as long as another 2.5 weeks, if Denver can defeat New England on Sunday.

Until then, Cleveland will keep itself busy by interviewing Bills DC Mike Pettine.

Other Gigs

Ken Whisenhunt may try to bring Chargers TE coach Jason Michael along with him as his OC in Tennessee.

With Jim Caldwell having taken the head job in Detroit, Baltimore interviewed Mini Shanny about coordinating their offense.

Peyton Manning apparently made an unsolicited call to Lions GM Martin Mayhew to support the case for hiring Caldwell.

Miami hired Eagles QB coach Bill Lazor as their new OC and spent two days interviewing the X-Man.
