Let's get caught up on the rest of the week's coaching hirings. Jim Tomsula continues to build his coaching staff with the Niners, including a couple of castoffs from across the Bay.
Tomsula has reportedly hired former Jets and Browns coach Eric Mangini to be his defensive coordinator. Tony Sparano, who, like Mangini, interviewed for the Raiders' head job, will coach tight ends under Tomsula and a yet-to-be-hired OC, possibly former Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin.
Another former Oakland assistant, former DC Jason Tarver, will coach linebackers for the Niners. We'll have to see if Tarver's eye black antics fly in San Francisco.
Still one more Raiders assistant landed another job, this one a promotion - former quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo will run Cleveland's offense under Mike Pettine. According to Pettine, the situation with Kyle Shanahan, who preceded DeFilippo, brought a "dark cloud" to his staff.
As for the Raiders themselves, Jack Del Rio's staff is coming together too, if more slowly. FSU defensive line coach Sal Sunseri has been hired, but it's not been announced whether he'll hold that same position in Oakland. Sunseri was on John Fox's Carolina staff for seven years, including one under DC Del Rio. Former Bills QB coach Todd Downing will take the same job under Bill Musgrave.
As for the Broncos, Robert Mays isn't sure what to expect out of the Gary Kubiak/Dennison/Peyton Manning marriage. Finally, Luke Richesson's former assistant, Jason George, has joined John Fox's staff in Chicago, where he'll be the head strength coach.
