Carter to IR; Ihenacho, Mohamed promoted

Second-year safety Quinton Carter was placed on IR and will undergo microfracture surgery next week on the same knee he had arthroscopically repaired during training camp.

With Joe Mays suspended for tomorrow's game against Oakland, two spots had opened on the active roster; Denver promoted safety Duke Ihenacho and linebacker Mike Mohamed to fill them.

The Broncos signed Ihenacho as an undrafted rookie this year; Mohamed was a sixth-round pick last year and split time between Denver's practice squad and 53-man roster. He was re-signed to the practice squad on Thursday after having been waived from Jacksonville's after two weeks.

As expected, the Raiders will be without WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (concussion) tomorrow; he had been listed as doubtful on yesterday's injury report. TE Richard Gordon (hamstring) was also declared out; he had been listed as questionable, and is a key special-teams player for Oakland.
