Carter apologizes for tasteless tweet

Tony Carter set the Twittersphere afire last night with a wildly insensitive remark about seeing a late movie in the Denver area. Not sure what took so long, but he recently apologized:

I am truly sorry for the insensitive and inappropriate comment I made last night. It will never happen again.

We'll hope Carter truly understands how vile his original tweet was, and that it's the last of the sort from any Denver player.

Twitter is bad news for those who don't have presence of mind. If we express all our thoughts, none of us would look good.

He's a young man that made a mistake and brief error in judgement. I believe the best in people so I truly believe he is sorry as soon as someone pointed out to him that this didn't come across the best way. I don't think he should be beaten up. He made a mistake as many young people, yours truly included, do.

I don't follow the dude, so I'm not sure I can judge his intentions clearly. But to me, the original tweet just reads like gallows humor rooted in nervousness, not malice. Isn't everyone at least a little creeped out about seeing a late night movie lately? Seems like the Twittersphere may be getting its knickers in a twist here. But i suppose pro athletes should realize that anything they say will be subject to intense scrutiny, especially when it involves a tragedy of such epic proportions. You can't really broadcast to the world every little thing you might casually remark to a friend, whatever your intentions.

I stumbled upon the site of that tragedy completely by accident when i was in town for the Oakland game, looking for Manning jerseys at the mall. Fences are still up, police are still keeping watch, and the place still resonated with the horror of that moment. What a breathtakingly awful experience. I really feel for those victims and their families. What a nightmare.
