Broncos sign Brandon Marshall (not that one)

Good Afternoon, and Happy Labor Day, Broncos fans! Let's open with the real news items relating to the Broncos:

  • Denver rounded out its practice squad with linebacker Brandon Marshall, who was Jacksonville's fifth-round pick out of Nevada in 2012.
  • Peyton Manning, Ryan Clady, Champ Bailey, Wesley Woodyard, and David Bruton are Denver's team captains for 2013.
  • Champ Bailey, Joel Dreessen, and C.J. Anderson did not practice on Sunday.
  • Newly claimed LB Adrian Robinson is expected to practice with the team today.
  • Steve Vallos (60), Paris Lenon (51), and Quanterus Smith (93) got new jersey numbers, although Quant won't get to wear his in 2013 (IR).

More Broncos News

I've been telling you all along that jack-of-no-trades FB Jacob Hester wasn't making this team. It just took an extra day to come to fruition...

Basically, Denver sees Omar Bolden as the secondary swing guy they'd envisioned Quentin Jammer to be, while Jammer will now exclusively be a corner.

Peyton Manning says he's done talking about the playoff loss to Baltimore, while Elvis Dumervil still feels he should have gotten his mitts on Joe Flacco on the Jacoby Jones touchdown.

Fans and talking heads will probably remain focused on that same play, but Rahim Moore wants to talk about how much he can improve this season.

Obviously, Duke Ihenacho appreciates his own meteoric rise from undrafted player to Week 1 starter.

And yes, there was more talk at Dove Valley yesterday about Joe Flacco banners. Really, who cares?

Broncos Analysis

Legwold figures that when the Broncos want to have someone line up as a fullback, they'll use Virgil Green there, he says Tavarres King was cut (but ended up on the PS) due to an inconsistent work ethic, and his Rolodex buddies think Orlando Franklin may struggle against Elvis Dumervil.

Of course, Peter King thinks it's a really big deal that Denver placed Quant Smith on IR, given that he had dubbed Smith the most important fifth-rounder in the league.

Are we really suggesting that there was any chance Kayvon Webster wasn't making the 53-man roster?

ESPN's writers all have Denver winning the AFCW, if you care.

Oakland cut awesome human Chris Kluwe and 2013 fourth-rounder Tyler Wilson; Kansas City waived six players and claimed seven off waivers, and is that something a playoff contender does? I think not; San Diego cut WR/KR Richard Marshall and added LB Reggie Walker.

The LOLJets claimed RB Alex Green off waivers from the Packers and will sign former Denver QB Brady Quinn.

Dallas dealt DT Sean Lissemore to San Diego in exchange for a 2015 seventh-rounder, and sent former Broncos TE Dante Rosario to Chicago for a conditional 2014 seventh-rounder; Indy acquired LB Cam Johnson from San Francisco for a conditional pick.

Cincy gave DT Geno Atkins a five-year deal that will pay him $36M over its first three years; Carolina signed S Quintin MikellMinnesota claimed T J'Marcus Webb off waivers from Chicago; Miami cut troubled FB Evan Rodriguez; New England cut KR Leon Washington and got TE Rob Gronkowski back in full pads; Cleveland cut RB Brandon Jackson; Green Bay signed QB Seneca Wallace; San Francisco signed WR Chris Harper off Seattle's practice squad.

The quacktastic so-called QB Guru who claimed 4.5 months ago to have fixed Tim Tebow's nightmarish mechanics now admits that the UT's™ next best chance may be north of the border.

Jason Fitzgerald explains all of the NFL's roster designations.

Chase Stuart wraps up his team previews with the Eagles and a discussion of tempo.

Bill Barnwell goes over the teams he expects to occupy the league's bottom quarter this season.

No matter how you calculate sack rates, Peyton Manning will always rank among the league's best.
