Broncos promote Shaq Barrett; Dick LeBeau resigns in Pittsburgh

The Broncos placed Quanterus Smith (knee) on IR and promoted linebacker Shaq Barrett from the practice squad in his place. Smith graded out at -12.1 over 308 snaps in what was essentially a redshirt rookie season. Barrett was promoted for one game earlier in the season, but did not dress.

In the biggest news of the day, zone blitz architect Dick LeBeau announced his resignation as Pittsburgh's defensive coordinator. LeBeau, 77, spent 13 years as the Steelers' DC across two stints; he was essentially forced out by head coach Mike Tomlin, and says he's not planning to retire.

LeBeau's first job in Pittsburgh was as the Steelers' defensive backs coach; he succeeded John Fox in 1992, when the current Broncos coach headed west to coach Bobby Ross's secondary in San Diego.
