Broncos place Smith on IR, cut Lilja, King

According to various reports, the Broncos have cut C Ryan Lilja, placed one fifth-rounder, DE Quanterus Smith, on IR, and waived their other one, WR Tavarres King.

Once Dan Koppen was lost to a torn ACL, Lilja had returned from a brief retirement to reconvene with former Colts teammate Peyton Manning in Denver, but his own knee problems appear to have again ended his career.

A torn ACL also cut short Smith's senior season at Western Kentucky, and he apparently suffered a setback in his recovery from that injury this preseason. In 95 snaps, Quant had graded out at an atrocious minus-6.4 according to PFF, performing especially poorly against the run.

That King was cut is a bit of a surprise, and means Denver will only carry Andre Caldwell and return man Trindon Holliday behind starters Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, and Wes Welker. Gerell Robinson, Lamaar Thomas, and Quincy McDuffie had been cut earlier.
