Broncos place Danny Trevathan on IR, waive Dominique Jones

The Broncos opened two roster spots on Tuesday by placing linebacker Danny Trevathan on IR and waiving tight end Dominique Jones. Trevathan will undergo surgery to repair a patellar dislocation, the third injury in or around his left knee this season.

According to Troy Renck, Denver would like to bring Jones back to the practice squad. He was activated last week and dressed in place of Jacob Tamme, who is expected back this week.

As for who might fill the two vacancies on the 53-man roster, our first guesses are linebacker Shaq Barrett and punt returner Isaiah Burse. Barrett spent five days on the active roster in October, but did not dress for the Week 7 game against San Francisco.

Burse was waived 10 days ago when Brandon McManus was promoted to handle kickoffs. Wes Welker and Emmanuel Sanders have since handled return duties, but their importance to the offense makes the risk appear greater than normal. Then again, Burse put the ball on the ground three times and dropped his lone pass target.
