Broncos making final cuts on way to 53-man roster

According to Mike Klis, the Broncos have cut running back Lance Ball and waived wideouts Gerell Robinson and Lamaar Thomas, linebacker Damien Holmes, cornerback Aaron Hester, and lineman Ben Garland.

Ball lost out to undrafted rookie C.J. Anderson, who has made the 53-man roster despite a sprained MCL that's kept him out of action for the past two weeks. Vic Lombardi reports that Anderson is expected to be at full speed in two weeks or sooner.

Robinson and Thomas were apparently beaten out by Tavarres King, which shouldn't be as much of a surprise as is being portrayed; a fifth-round pick has to have a pretty terrible summer to get cut before his rookie season even begins.

Klis says the Broncos are hoping to stash Robinson on their practice squad, adding that DE John Youboty may end up there as well, and suggesting that Hester isn't among their top eight choices.

Garland had spent most of the offseason working as an offensive guard, but late in the preseason, he was switched back to his more familiar defensive tackle role.

Rosters must be down to 53 by Saturday at 6pm ET, and waiver claims are due by noon ET on Sunday. Once players clear waivers, they can be signed to the practice squad.
