Broncos cut roster to 77; two more cuts due by Tuesday

In advance of Tuesday's 4pm ET deadline to cut down to 75 players, the Broncos have announced 11 transactions, bringing the roster to 77.

Wide receivers Greg Orton and Quincy McDuffie were waived/injured; Orton suffered a high ankle sprain on the last play of Denver's August 3 scrimmage, while McDuffie had been slowed by a hamstring problem.

Also waived were QB Ryan Katz, WR Kemonte' Bateman, TE Deangelo Peterson, C Quentin Saulsberry, T Manase Foketi, DE Lanston Tanyi, LB Uona Kaveinga, and corners Mario Butler and Nigel Malone.

Bateman, Foketi, Katz, Kaveinga, McDuffie, and Tanyi had been signed as undrafted rookies. Orton first joined the team as a free agent in 2011, and like Butler, spent part of 2012 on Denver's practice squad.

Saulsberry was on the practice squad for all of 2012 but faces a four-game suspension for having violated the PED policy and was arrested in May for DUI.

Malone joined the team on August 1 via waivers from Pittsburgh, while Peterson was signed five days later to add depth while Joel Dreessen and Jacob Tamme nursed injuries.

Denver must make two more moves between now and Tuesday afternoon, while rosters must be down to 53 by 6pm ET on Saturday.

The Broncos close out their preseason on Thursday night, when they will host the Cardinals.
