Happy Tuesday, friends, and welcome to another edition of ST&NO. As I started writing this, it was the Saturday of HOF weekend, and I live an hour north of Canton. I went down last year to see Gary Zimmerman get inducted, with MattR and his friend, but, alas, I didn't attend this year. It rained most of the day, anyway, and Adam Schefter tweeted about it every 3.4 seconds, so it was almost like being there.
It's been awhile since I have written an ST&NO, as we spent about a month in the tremendously boring part of the football year. As training camp is now underway, it seems that it is time to start a new season for the column. I didn't really hit my stride with it until the beginning of the 2009 reloading season, so it will be fun doing it during the regular season.
I'm really fired up for the 2009 season, and I hope every member of this community also is. I see a lot of reason to be positive, regardless of what people erroneously think of me and my proclivities for Kool-Aid. If I were a Raiders fan, I'd feel negative about the upcoming season, but I am a Broncos fan, so I do the other thing. Welcome to the new season, friends. Let's make it a great one. Ready.... BEGIN!!!
Happy Tuesday to all MHR community members. I've been absent for a few weeks, mostly due to craziness in my day job, but at least partially due to a lack of awe-inspiring topics to write about. This is the worst part of the football year, where nothing is going on.
Today, we'll talk about the other teams the Broncos play this season, including AFC second-place teams and the AFC West, and time permitting, I kind of feel like beating up on some MSM writing. We shall see how far I am able to get, and for now, I am going to get right to it. Ready.... BEGIN!!!
Happy Monday, fellow MHR community members. It's time for another version of ST&NO. We're getting to the part of the offseason where I am really starting to long for the preseason to start. When you get your information from your eyes, your eyes start to miss having anything to look at. Here's hoping the next 8 weeks goes by quickly.
Today, we'll look at the AFC North, since the Broncos will play all 4 teams this season. We'll also talk about some of the few headlines around the league, and maybe talk a little Brandon Marshall. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry (if it is your wont to cry over weird things.) It will be shallow, and narrow. Ready.... BEGIN!!!
Welcome to an eve-of-month-end-financial-close version of ST&NO, where I spent spent all day between a boat transiting Lake Erie, and Kelley's Island, which is a very nice place to visit. Exacerbating matters is the fact that the lady-friend has been out of town all weekend, and her plane lands at 10 PM. At that point, I expect to devote some time to talking to her, as I tried to lay off all weekend so she could hang out with her college roommate in peace. It is now 8:54 PM, and I will write until she calls. It's a lot like being down a couple touchdowns with 4 minutes to go, and no timeouts. Ready.... BEGIN!!!
I am not a very big Sum 41 fan, but they had a great album title a few years ago, in All Killer, No Filler, which our friends at Wikipedia inform me was borrowed from Jerry Lee Lewis, who was significantly cooler than them. I always thought of it as the Sum 41 rule, until I just looked it up, so that continues, I guess.
Anyway, I have adopted it as a rule of ST&NO, in the sense that if I can't think of enough interesting topics to fill a decent column, I won't post one, because I owe it to those who read my work not to waste their time with weak stuff. I started writing some content last week, and it didn't pass the test, so I didn't post anything on Monday. Here goes 2 weeks worth of material, on a Memorial Day Monday. As a veteran myself, I would remind our American community members to take a moment to reflect on the brave servicemen and women who lost their lives in the service of our nation.
Monday, MONDAY, MONNNNNNNNNNNNDAY!!!!!! Good morning, and welcome to another edition of Shallow Thoughts & Nearsighted Observations. For this week's official ST&NO picture, I chose Knowshon Moreno being coached by Bobby Turner. It kind of gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, knowing Bobby is still with us, and that he's devoting his considerable coaching talents to developing a future star. It's the time of the year where football news is slow. If I were a newsman, I might have to resort to making up some trade rumors. Since I am an avowed opinion-writer, though, here comes a portion of that instead for you to chew on. Bon appetit!
After going with focused and snark-free on Wednesday, I'm back with what everybody is more used-to from me. Meandering and snark... it must be ST&NO. Ready... BEGIN!!!!!
You know, this has been a great weekend for MHR. Our leader got to cover the draft as a credentialed member of the legitimate media, our staff kept the information flowing, and our community contributed thousands of comments and many outstanding Fanposts throughout the two days. It was a triumph for this site, and now I am exhausted. And, yes, it's back to the day job tomorrow, for another five days. Please forgive me if this is a shorter than usual ST&NO, but my eyes hurt and my fingers are tired. Ready..... BEGIN!!!
Welcome to a very special Draftivus Friday version of Shallow Thoughts & Nearsighted Observations, which I publish at the risk of over-saturating the market of those two commodities. Included is my Soup-To-Chocolate-Cake 7-Round Mock Draft, as promised. Ready..... BEGIN.
