Broncos select Wisconsin RB Montee Ball with 58th pick

The Broncos got their back. But it wasn't the guy anyone expected. For months now - ever since Denver lost to Baltimore in the playoffs - we've been reading in the DP that the Broncos wanted a bigger running back.

With the 58th pick in the draft, Denver took 5-11, 214 lb. Badgers running back Montee Ball, who ran an uninspiring 4.66-second 40-yard dash at the combine.

A consensus All-American in each of the past two seasons, Ball's 83 touchdowns from scrimmage are the most in Division I history.

Ball had a monster 2011 season, with 2,229 yards from scrimmage on 331 touches, for an average of 6.73 yards per touch and 39 total touchdowns, and was a Heisman finalist for his efforts.

Garland crowded out on defense, switches to offensive line

According to Mike Klis, the Broncos are switching Ben Garland to the offensive line, although it's unclear whether they see him as a guard or tackle.

Garland, who recently turned 25, was granted his release from the Air Force a year ago to pursue his NFL career. Listed on the official site at 275 lbs, Garland was reportedly up to 305 lbs last May. After failing to make the squad out of training camp, the Grand Junction native spent the 2012 season on Denver's practice squad.

Broncos select UNC DT Sylvester Williams 28th overall

After years of unmet expectations that the Broncos would take a defensive tackle atop their draft classes, they finally did so on Thursday night, when it was least anticipated. Denver went with a former reclamation project at #28, stealing North Carolina defensive tackle Sylvester Williams.

Williams played only one year of high school ball, and when no colleges came calling on the recruiting trail, he assumed his career had come to an end. So he traded the gridiron for working in a factory making radiator parts for trucks.

Colquitt signs RFA tender; only Clady remains unsigned

Broncos punter Britton Colquitt signed his restricted tender on Tuesday and will be paid $1.323M this season. According to the Denver Post, the two sides are expected to work toward a long-term deal in the coming months.

Along with T Chris Clark and RB Lance Ball, Colquitt was tendered in March at the Right of First Refusal Only level, which meant the Broncos had the right to match any potential offers from other teams, but would not have received any draft pick compensation in the process.

Revis gets big bucks but no guarantees from Bucs, who give LOLJets #13 pick, conditional 2014 pick

It took a while, but the LOLJets finally dealt star cornerback Darrelle Revis to Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Every party got what they wanted - that is, unless Revis was looking for a hefty guarantee as part of a new contract. Shockingly, the 27-year old will get absolutely nothing guaranteed, but his deal is worth $96M over six years.

Granted, the Bucs gave up Thursday's #13 pick, plus a 2014 fourth-rounder which becomes a third-rounder if Revis is on their roster on the third day of the 2014 league year, so there's zero chance they cut him this season.

Broncos attend workout by FSU’s Carradine

As they look to fill the void created by Elvis Dumervil's departure, it was reported last week that the Broncos have been researching Florida State defensive end Cornellius "Tank" Carradine.

But if Denver is to acquire the pass rusher, they may have to move up from the #28 pick, following an impressive workout today by the 6-4, 276-pounder.

His senior season was cut short by a torn ACL suffered in late November, but an intense rehabilitation with the same trainer who helped Adrian Peterson to his remarkable 2012 comeback season has Carradine nearly back to form.

Broncos reportedly interested in ODU safety Carvin Powell

According to Aaron Wilson, the Broncos and Dolphins have expressed interest in Old Dominion safety Carvin Powell.

Listed at 6-1, 205 pounds on his school profile, Powell was not invited to the combine, but performed at ODU's pro day on March 21 in front of representatives from a reported nine or ten teams.
