3:13 AM Klis: An NFL source said Manning may also visit the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins, but those trips have not been scheduled.
2:00 AM According to Mark Long, the Jaguars will not pursue Tim Tebow as long as Gene Smith is GM.
Who knows if Shahid "Chaka" Kahn has weighed in on this news.
1:56 AM Darren McKee: Rumor revision the dinner was only with 6 people at the men's grill upstairs. Bill in foxs name. Thems the rumors
12:37 AM Darren McKee: Just found out manning still at cherry hills cc. The club is closed but fox Elway manning all still there! C'mon boys keep him here!
12:11 AM Gary Miller: Manning wants to see what else is out there. He will go to Arizona tomorrow after short get together with Broncos in morning.
12:06 AM Gary Miller is reporting on CBS4 that Manning will depart tomorrow without a deal, as he is intent on making his other scheduled visits, presumably with Arizona and Miami. According to Miller, if the Broncos are able to sign Manning, they will try to trade Tebow, most likely to Jacksonville. If they don't land Peyton, then Tebow is still the starter heading into camp, as Miller tells it.
11:56 PM Shelley Smith on ESPN says Manning and the Denver brass may in fact continue their meeting tomorrow morning
11:32 PM Tim Tebow was in Tampa tonight to honor a wounded Army Ranger and had no comment on the Broncos' pursuit of Manning.
11:18 PM Who else but Shanny & Snyder? Adam Schefter: Trade will not change Redskins plans in pursuing Peyton Manning. Intend to talk with and try to sign him, even if considered a longshot.
Manning and Tebow on same team?
Perhaps the most intriguing team in pursuit of Peyton Manning are the Denver Broncos. And there is a pursuit. A fairly hot one, according to a person familiar with the situation. There is also reciprocal interest from Manning.
That doesn’t mean this will happen and the odds of Manning joining the Broncos, while possible, are slim.
I’m told Manning would be uncomfortable with Tebow being on the roster but also doesn’t want to be seen as the guy who pushed Tebow out of Denver. The Broncos, I’m told, also don’t want to trade Tebow even if Manning joins the team. The Broncos would have to come to some sort of resolution of these two things and it might just be too messy for a resolution to be reached.
Freeman's source says the Broncos wouldn't want to trade Tebow. Miller says the opposite. One of them is right, and if it's Miller, then Freeman's source is likely trying to maintain Tebow's trade value for Denver.
The second reason Freeman cites as a hindrance to a Denver/Manning union is that whole representation thing Woody Paige has been harping on. Still not buying it. If John Elway and Peyton Manning decide they want this to happen, Tom Condon and Jimmy Sexton are not about to be the prohibiting factor.
Denver “desperately” wants Peyton Manning
The latest tidbit comes from Peter King of Sports Illustrated and Football Night in America via Twitter, who writes that the Broncos “desperately” want Peyton.
Happy Friday, Broncos fans! According to multiple spine specialists, the health of Peyton Manning's neck is not an issue, assuming his fusion procedures were a success. Rather, they say the bone should actually be stronger now, and the only real question is whether Manning's arm strength is where it needs to be. The doctors USA Today spoke to echo these sentiments. With that out of the way, let's check in on Denver's presumed competition for his services:
The Dolphins are apparently all in on Manning, to the point that they haven't yet expressed interest in Matt Flynn. Coach Joe Philbin says the team hasn't yet spoken with the QB but confirms they hope to in the coming days. FWIW, Reggie Wayne would love to end up in Miami with Peyton.
Contrary to yesterday's report, Mike Florio is hearing that Peyton has not told Washington they're out of the running, even if that still appears the likely outcome.
Adam Teicher acknowledges that the Chiefs certainly have the cap room, but he thinks adding Manning would be quite a divergence from the franchise's plan to build for the long term.
As for the Niners, there is still a gap between them and Alex Smith in terms of both years and guaranteed money on a potential deal. Are they not budging because they're considering a run at Manning?
Per Vic Lombardi's series of tweets tonight:
I guess Tim Tebow was right all along: the Broncos organization doesn't give up and continues fighting to the very end.
“I think Peyton’s going to look at (the Broncos) and say ‘I know they’re going in the right direction,” Lynch, who played 4 seasons with Denver, told FOX31’s Ron Zappolo Thursday. “They’ve got a pretty good president (Elway) who knows how important a quarterback is.”
Lynch, who considers both Manning and Elway to be close friends, says the ex-Colt and future Hall of Famer could be lured by the opportunity to work with a two-time Super Bowl champion, and also succeed in the short-term.
“I think Peyton knows that John’s going to get this place right. It’s just a matter of how. And when I say “right,” I mean winning a championship. And that intrigues Peyton.”
Add John Lynch to the list of people who thinks John Elway makes this deal happen.
Report: Peyton doesn't want to play for Skins
Appearing on SportsCenter Thursday, ESPN 980 Washington’s Chris Russell said he’s “hearing” free agent Peyton Manning does not want to play for the Redskins and has already informed people in the building.
“A couple of different sources inside the organization have told me that Manning’s camp made it pretty clear to Redskins officials he doesn’t want to come here,” said Russell.
If there's one man who isn't going to overhaul his offensive scheme to accomodate a QB who's going on 36 years old, it's Mike Shanahan.
If Manning is going to be your new quarterback, it will be on his terms
Trust me, Peyton Manning will control this whole process.
Peyton Manning is not going from team to team and working out for each club…The workout itself may never even happen if a top bidding team says they don’t care about the session, which I suspect will be the case.
Peyton Manning is going to get a fat contract. He will see top QB money, and he’s not taking any risks financially to prove he can still play.
Manning isn't going to be trying to prove his health, or giving anybody a contract out if his health fails. You're buying him as he is claiming to be, period. It's high risk, high return.
Brees surprises with selfish turn
Sources tell us the Arizona Cardinals want to sign Manning. They would eradicate Kevin Kolb from the roster. John Skelton, a quarterback whom Ken Whisenhunt likes a lot and won with in the second half last year, would be the backup and insurance in case Manning got hurt. Manning, according to different sources, has put out feelers about the Cardinals. He is very intrigued by playing with Larry Fitzgerald and bringing Wayne along as his wingman.
Make no mistake; part of the Cardinals’ plan would be to sign Wayne if they brought Manning on board. It has been discussed at length internally. Manning is said to respect and like Whisenhunt and has reached out via intermediaries to learn more about him. Sources say Manning also likes Arizona’s young, talented defense.
There is legit mutual interest in a Manning-Cardinals marriage. Arizona will be in play.
Helton talks Manning, Broncos
“First, I have to see where Peyton’s at,” Helton said. “If it came down to the Broncos and another team, I would probably talk to him.”
Helton, of course, was the Tennessee Volunteers' starting QB until Manning took over.
