Five Analysts, Five Questions, Week 10
Tim Tebow may get all the ink in Denver but someone had to stop the Chiefs getting more than 17 points at home and no one did more in that regard than Von Miller. A sack, four hits and three hurries on 33 rushes. Don’t think defensive rookie of the year – think All-Pro…He was utterly destructive against the Chiefs and is the primary reason you’re now hearing about Matt Cassel missing time injured down the stretch.
I'm not offended by the Tebow-as-Jesus jersey; in fact, I find it liberating. If some cat wants to spend a few hundred dollars of their hard-earned money outside of a strip club, who am I to judge?
Escapism is the American way. Some folks get addicted to gambling. Some folks get addicted to drugs. Some folks buy another man's replica jersey. Raiders fans do all three.
The point is that dudes that played Dungeons and Dragons have to grow up someday. And when they grow up, they wear jerseys.
So I came up with a few jerseys of my own that all Broncos fans can get behind.
Even the nerds.
Good Morning, Broncos fans! As Ted pointed out yesterday, Tim Tebow and the Broncos continue to affirm inclinations all over Broncos Country - so much so that Confirmation Bias Week has stretched for over a month now, and there's no sign of it ending anytime soon. It's been a perfect recipe, as the Broncos are 3-1 with Tebow as their starting QB thus far, and he's been exceptional running the ball while rather inept at throwing the ball during that stretch. So, Tim's "just a winner" who will obviously continue to do so, and work so hard that he'll become a 60% passer someday - because all of this winning will buy him the time to do so. A reader even wrote something to the effect of, "Tebow is already almost a 50% passer" last week in our comment section. Of course, the other side of the debate (since there are only two, right?) is that Tim is so far from being a legitimate NFL thrower of the football that the Broncos, John Elway and John Fox aren't long enough time or political capital (yes, even Elway) to wait for that to happen.
Podcast: 104.3 The Fan - The Drive (Hour 1)
We’re looking at John Elway, the President of Football Operations, HOF quarterback, and one of the quickest releases in all of football history, one of the most accurate quarterbacks in NFL history, and could do all the things, really, that Tim Tebow is doing now, on top of throwing the football…you think that’s the way he’s looking at it?
Alfred Williams posed the question tonight on his radio show (forward to about the 8:45 mark in the podcast for the quote). Will Elway stake his NFL legacy on revolution?
If you think the answer is yes, then you've got to go out and draft or sign one or two additional 15-like quarterbacks. Do you waste a fourth-round draft pick? A fifth? Both?
If the answer is no, then, you know where this 15 story ends. 15 is traded or he accepts a nice little career as an H-back for the orange and blue.
And, Al, did you say Elway was one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL? Just checking, my man.
Darrelle Revis not sold on Tim Tebow
Revis sees Tebow as a bigger threat as a runner than passer, but he wouldn’t go so far as to say the Denver Broncos can maintain long-term success with the read-option offense. He believes it takes a special player to run that system in the NFL. “Yeah, if you have Michael Vick and, I don’t know, Chris Johnson at running back,” he said. “Yeah, it can work. Those are probably the two fastest guys that can probably get out on the edge on you.” But not Tebow, according to Revis. “No, not for a whole season, because we know what they’re doing, and we feel comfortable in our game plan,” he said.
41-year-old Brunell plays part of Tebow decoy for Jets
When the New York Jets need to simulate Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, the responsibility falls to a man old enough to be his father. Well, at least Mark Brunell is left-handed just like Tebow.
Re-Focused – Broncos @ Chiefs, Week 10
Indeed, it was the Denver defense that won this game for the Broncos, with the help of another 200+ yard team rushing effort despite early injuries to Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno (+1.3)...I really wanted to avoid discussing Von Miller (+7.5) yet again (he’s turning into PFF’s Tebow) but while we keep waiting for his performances to level off and him to hit the rookie wall, he continues to improve while turning in dominant efforts…For a defense that was as bad as Denver was last year, it must feel good to influence a game positively instead of negatively…This defense hit Cassel 13 times over the course of the game, and defensive performances like that will give any team a great chance to win.
Source: LaDainian Tomlinson won't play against Broncos due to MCL sprain
Although [Rex] Ryan remained uncertain about Tomlinson’s availability for Thursday’s game against the Broncos, The News has learned that Tomlinson won’t play in Denver.
The status of Willis McGahee, who was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice, remains unclear.
The Shutdown Corner NFL Roundtable: Week 11 Edition
Doug Farrar: The recent history of different option packages in the NFL tells me that the Broncos will indeed have success with what they’re doing. As I detailed in this article, they’ve set things up to fool defenses in ways that are virtually unstoppable against defenses that aren’t extremely disciplined…Of course, the question is — what happens in the offseason? Do they stick with Tebow as their starter, or do they go a different way?
Here's the article Farrar references above, unfortunately I'd missed it the first time around.
It was after [the Detroit] loss when Fox and the rest of the organization would begin a two-week transformation that included a change in playcalling. The resulting success in turn led to a change in the attitude toward Tebow Time…The looks Denver has gotten from opposing defenses in the past two games has opened the door to more creative ways to exploit teams with Tebow’s skill set…On Thursday, after a short week of preparations, the Broncos will have yet another opportunity to progress their newly implemented option system against the Jets. They’ll add more plays and packages. They’ll continue to polish the ones they’ve already implemented in the past two weeks.
